I have been driving Corvette's since 1968 I learned about the wave way back then. I believe that there are a few reasons the wave is not as strong as it was. First there are a lot of new Corvette owners out there that is they are not in a club or know other long time owners, they most likely don't even know about it. Also and maybe the strongest reason, is things are different then they once were. Everyone is in more of a hurry. Most cars now have tinted windows and the A/C is going so sometimes it is hard to see if a wave is given or returned. Everyone seem more preoccupied and don't always notice a corvette come at you. Finally the roads have changed over the years to multi-lane divided roads so it is even more difficult to notice a wave.
Wave at every one I see. Nothing like a beautiful day with the top off, and passing another Vette owner with their top off or down and get the wave back.
2.5 year Vette owner so I don't get the whole wave thing, I do respond as not to be rude but never initiate a wave. Is there a secret hand shake or something I need to know about?

If you have your hand at 12 on the wheel, lift your index and middle finger as if you're saying peace.
i always give the peace sign. works as both recognition & V sign ( i.e. 'vette ).
the V sign also works as way to defuse 'animated' drivers who, feel the need to give their own angry hand gesture.
just missing the wave happens a lot too. I still try to acknowledge everyone. even the generations that some don't consider popular.
my thoughts are, the people who bought the less popular years at least, kept the line moving for those of the other generations.
we're a big messed up family, aren't we?
