Default Radar Projector

Hi everyone,

Anyone know who currently owns the IP for the design of the DashTronix Radar Projector? I know Sunset Orange Creations was selling it for a while before they went under.

I have an RP and would be interested if there is still a market for such a product - obviously it would be simpler to manufacture without having to completely redesign.

If anyone knows how to get in touch with the current intellectual property owner, I would love a PM with some info!

Thanks in advance!

Is it not still owned by Dash Tronics?

Love mine.

Unfortunately, no. In 2014, Sunset Orange Creations obtained the IP/rights to manufacture. It looks like SOC went belly-up in 2015, which is a shame.

As a user of some of these products, I would love to see them back on the market, and I would love even more to not redesign them from scratch when there are fully valid designs already in existence.

Purchased a DT projector soon after they were introduced way back.
Exchanged emails w/ owner over a couple issues back then re unit not projecting band type as well as strength.
All mine ever did w/ an alert was display signal strength, had to look at detector to see what band.

Young man admitted mine wasn't correct & promised to make right.
Never heard from the guy, again.
Unfortunately I've long ago forgot his name, still use it though.

Exactly how did this product work? Does the RD connect to it, and where does it project? On the HUD???

Thanks for any info

Mine shows band, but V1 has distinct sounds for each band. Very easy to tell Laser from K bands.

SOC was great with me but I understand they had problems just before going out of business ...

Projector connects to OBDII port, phone cable from radar Detector connects to projector. volume comes from dector, detector can be blacked out....no lights. All info is displayed in HUD. Signal strength, band, direction of signals and number of signals.
On V1 strongest signal is displayed for strength and direction but it will tell you if there are more signals and flash directions for secondary signals.

Also allows display on DIC in the instrument panel for those cars who do not have the HUD installed or for those who would prefer the info appear there. For those with a newer V1, it will also display things like frequency and direction of multiple signals (different views are selectable, the one I use shows frequency and direction of strongest signal and direction of 4? other signals)

That's what I said.
Band = frequency
Direction of multiple signals with primary threat taking priority.

Been thinking about a new V1 to get rid of the false alerts from cars with lane assist and such.

V1's even with the junk fighter setting still false on lasers a lot. Very annoying because it's intermittent so hitting the mute is ineffective. I'm thinking of just turning the laser off, it's rarely used in the states I travel through and the only time I've been hit with laser there was no warning, it's just a get out your wallet notification.

Escort works same way minus directional arrows.
Always alerted by type of alarm w/o looking at DL, anyway.
Bought this gizmo because one time had Marshall Tucker blaring, never heard alarm earning myself a ticket.
Sounded like a great idea, at the time.

Just the same it'd have been nice had it worked, as advertised.
After a few years realized I really didn't need/use it, anyway.
If music's at a 'normal' volume, detector alerts are plenty loud to get my attention across all bands as well as what's scanning.

DL's a neat gadget, but that's all. Riders are amazed, love it.

In addition to X, K, Ka, etc, it will also display the actual frequency (e.g. 24.050 GHz), although knowing that isn't of any actual utility to me..

I've had some luck reducing false alerts by disabling the POP K feature (pretty much all the radar down here is either constant-on K or Ka). I think if your V1 supports ESP, you're able to turn on their new Junk K fighter thing in this manner.

I mainly bought it for my 06 Vert. Nice to have RD lights off when the top was down. Now I am so used to it working thru HUD I would not like to be without it.

As I recall you could also mute the V1 below a speed you select,(like under 20-25mph), so while you are crawling past the strip mall with all the false K-band alerts, the detector stays silent.

A very useful function IMHO.

Really? How does a V1 know how fast you are going?

The radar projector plugs into the OBD-2 port under the dash, and uses CAN data or the VSS line to determine vehicle speed. You then set a threshold speed; if you are under that speed, incoming alerts are automatically muted, but still displayed on the dash/HUD.

Valentine offers their "SAVVY" upgrade to do the same thing for those without a RP or in other vehicles.

Many escort detectors (and others) now have GPS speed determination and similar features for speed-based muting.
