I am having my windshield replaced tmw with safe-light, I set up everything through my insurance Gieco, so i didn't get to talk with any one about which windshield is required for my car as it has the HUD. Is there anything I can check on the windshield to make sure its one for the HUD?
Safelite did mine and it came out great! Good quality glass, installer was professional and careful. They carry a couple of different models windshield glass for the C6, you can check it out on their website. I recall the options were mostly about GPS for the Navigation system. When they call to schedule the appointment, tell them your options - HUD, NAV, GPS - and they should be able to match up your needs. I don't think they carry GM OEM glass, if that's important to you - it wasn't to me...
Been awhile since this discussion popped up, IIRC there's a special glass needed for HUD's, I THINK "HUD" is stamped somewhere on the glass. I do remember some folks saying they installed non-HUD glass in their HUD equipped cars and didn't see much of a difference...I'm sure someone will chime in with more facts.
Safelite did mine on my"13 GS this is the info in the glass. I had it done in their shop per their request. The shop in my town does not like to do mobile on a vette. I was very pleased with the outcome. I was told that the manufacturer is the only one that gets the GM etching in their glass.

Call Safe Lite and ask which windscreen they are planning to install. If not satisfied, discuss what you want with your insurance company.
Above said, automobile glass replacement is what Safe Lite does. So their very good at it. Their glass is of very high quality, made in the US by Fuyao in the largest automobile glass manufacturing plant on the planet.

It is standard procedure for a shop to run the VIN which will either indicate whether the vehicle has HUD etc, or alert them to the various options so that they ask in order to source the proper replacement component

Vin shows nothing about what glass is in the car ...there is no software available for a glass shop that covers ever manufacture ....the build sheet is what indicates what glass is in car

They came out and on the windshield twords the bottom in the black "liner" it did say HUD. But my installer found a small air pocket in the upper corner, and suggested that he get a different windshield as it may expand and cause issues later on. So they will be coming out today for the replacement, told the wife what to look for as I cant be home.
Ontime, you're the man posting that pic of a safelite HUD windshield! That it has DOT-376, the OEM GM glass supplier code, is awesome, just without the GM logo.Your pic encourages my thinking that by ensuring that the insurance co. is paying for the HUD glass, you'll get OE manufactured glass,
I'm totally OK with losing the logo, the OEM quality is what I'm looking for.
Not sure the extra cost for a HUD windshield is worth it. Have HUD on my 05 and replaced the windshield with a "regular" glass. No difference in HUD visbility, etc.. On my 01 Z06, had the same problem and the HUD worked fine.

The difference between a HUD and NON HUD is in the interlayer which straightens the image so it does not appear blurry , see the link below for an explanation on how it works
it is well known that on a C5 and a C6 , because of where the image was project on the wintshield , the image produced was pretty good and it was extremely hard to tell the difference between the two but with a C7 I can assure u that the image will have a slight distortion if a non hud part is installed
For me cost was not a factor as insurance is paying for it. The real benefit to getting the HUD windshield is that you get an OE manufactured windshield and not a Chinese or other aftermarket manufacturer.
To follow up, Safelite did mine (HUD) today, and the new windshield was marked with manufacturer code DOT-376 (same as the original), which is the OE supplier, just no GM logo. Very happy with the result.
