I made my own switch, which is identical to the Mild to Wild, for $20. Here's the how to video.
If nothing else watching the video will give you a good understanding of how everything works.
I like the Mild to Wild as it allows you to mount the remote wherever you like. I mounted mine with doublesided tape to the top of my drivers side visor.
If I was going to go with a hard mounted switch I'd go with the foot mounted type which works like the old school headlight dimmers and mounts to your dead pedal. That switch is sold by various suppliers for $50.

I bought the Mild to Wild immediately after picking up my car at the museum and have had zero issues. I've clipped it to my visor after trying it on the console initially. Very easy to use and reliable.
