Default 2008 2LZ vs 2009 1LZ Z06

I'm looking for a 2006-2009 Z06 and found a couple of options. I had been set on a 2LZ interior at a minimum, but I found a great deal on a 2009 1LZ. Will I regret picking a 1LZ versus a 2LZ?

Depends, for me HUD is a must have. You can add it.. if you want to cur a hole in yhe dash. I would get the 2LZ, at a minimum personally.

The HUD and the Bose system are probably the biggest things I'd regret. I could probably put a nice system in with Bluetooth for $1000. The heated seats really don't matter to me because I wouldn't be driving it in the winter.

To add a HUD is about $500 for parts. There is no cutting a hole in your dash. Just depends on what car makes you happier. In my case, the HUD was the only option I cared about, so I just added it ($400 then). As far as the the Bose and Nav systems go, seems like a large portion of owners rip them out and add after market anyway.

A 1LZ is going to cost less up front but the resale will be less. Keep looking for the exact car that fits your needs. There are lots of them out there for sale.

I'm looking at an order guide for 2009 and it says HUD is standard on 1LZ (page 7 - http://www.c6registry.com/Facts/2009-order-guide.pdf) . Do you need the telescoping steering wheel and seat memory for ingress/egress? I had a 2006 Z06 2LZ and thought it was a cool option. Now I have a GS 2LT without that and I don't miss it. I'm 5'11" 170lbs, though. Compared to my fully caged M3 with a full-containment seat, the Grand Sport is like Grand Canyon to get in and out of.

If the 05 navigation is anything like the navigation in the car you're looking at, I would pass. I have yet to use it. It is NON intuitive. You shouldn't have to read a manual to use a GPS. I have the heads up display too, I never use it. Bunwarmers are nice , as long as they work.

Not quite the same, but I have an 07 2LZ and there is nothing I would honestly miss. Like others have mentioned the resale is going to be better. I do think the navigation screen makes it look more modern but as JasonAndrew mentioned its not good and very outdated when compared to the nav in my other vehicles. Heck, I had a 2000 Acura TL that had about the same navigation setup as the z06 haha.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm thinking I can probably live without some of those features. 2009 with 25K miles for $31k is probably hard to pass up.

All depends on what you want.

If a high speed road coarse car, the 1lt would be my choice, but if you plan on street cruising the car, then would better of with the more option car instead.

Also, keep in mind that a Z06 is an entirly different animal that either a base or GS car. The Z06 was built for high speed coarse work, and on the street with it tight suspension, can be a back-breaker on rougher streets. You may not notice it that much in the driver seat, but anyone in the passenger seat will in the first few hundred yards of any kind of rough road/pot holes.

I got a 2lz but I don't use the hud... it's kind of distracting and I can hear my shift points.... I wanted to like it but I just couldn't...

might help with oll pressure and temp stuff, but the cars gonna get your attention if that happens...

I also hardly ever listen to music... I guess im just strange one...

just my one cent

I wouldn't pass just because it's one trim vs another; some of that stuff can be nice, but to me this car is about the body lines and the LS7. I use the HUD some, mostly just to keep an eye on my speed. The stereo sucks IMO, but I don't care as I NEVER have it on. Can't hear it, and would rather listen to the Borla Atak anyway. This is where the heated seats help, because if I'm driving it, the windows are down period.

Guess suspension stiffness preference varies by individual. I personally would not want a 'vette any softer than my Z06. I am quite used to stiff suspensions in my sports cars over the past 30 years as well as my daily drivers. My wife is used to it and no complaints. Don't be swayed against a Z until you drive it for yourself and assess if its too much or just right.

I agree 100%, to me its more about the price you can get it for and the value that goes with it

If you can score a deal on a lesser optioned car go for it

I just bought a grand sport in a color I always hated..... red....cause it was a fantastic deal

and now ive grown to love the color

Not entirely accurate as the GS was also built for the road course with the same suspension, brakes & wide body of the Z06.

You can add a much better audio system than the Bose which will also give you the option to add front & rear cameras which you cannot do with the factory system. HUD, if not equipped, is easy to add - I added it to my 1LT GS for under $300 & a few hours of my time.

GS has the softer Z52 suspension, not the Z06 suspension. Where the GS shines, is is when it has F55 as well, which makes a huge difference in the way that car will handle over even a GS without F55 instead.

As for GS verses z06, GS has a steel frame, and is not as rigid as the Z06 aluminum frame.

Then we get into LS3 verses LS7 on the Z06, and displacement just rules any way you look at it, short of super charging to increase torque on the LS3 motor instead.

Bottom line, is not that the GS is a bad autocross car since it was built for that, but its a lamb in wolf clothing when it comes to high speed road coarse work that the Z06 was built for instead.

2009 Z06 1LZ has HUD as standard equipment, at least mine did. I bought it new with only two options full width rear spoiler and CG wheels. The only down side in my opinion is less value on resale. I have a 4LT GS now and since I don't drive it everyday I would miss nothing by going to lesser optioned car. If it was driven everyday , I would like the heated seats in the winter.

1LZ because racecar. OEM nav "sucks", heated seats not needed, HUD is a kool little toy but if you dont have it no big deal, I find myself using the dash more than half the time anyway. 1LZ is lighter. I have a 2LZ by the way.
