Thanks for all the forum help on prior posts ... my tonneau stopped locking / pulling down and I found the problem ... the motor fell off the lock/pull down actuator. The plastic material around the screws holding on the motor cracked - and the motor fell off the unit into the cavity immediately below. See attached photo showing where motor should be - the B&W insert photo shows a replacement unit with the (black) motor attached.
So should I go for a complete new unit from a GM parts supplier ... or try one of the replacement motor Dorman assemblies on Amazon ...

I have used the Dorman version to repair this issue on 3 friend's C6's over the past 3 years without any issues with the Dorman motor assemblies.............
Part arrived ... just installed - works perfectly ...
My original assembly was bolted in right at the bottom of the adjustment travel - as if it was dropped into place at the factory and tightened with no thoughts about adjustment ...
I positioned the unit in the middle of the travel range - and it worked fine on the first shot - the tonneau is seated properly - so I'm inclined to leave it there ...
Thanks to all the help from forum members ... time to cruise ... :-)
I see the Dorman part (747-000) available, but it looks very different than the AC Delco part and isn’t listed as a fit for the C6. Is any modification required to make it work?
Hmmm ... I went to that amazon link and understand your question ... my replacement did use my original motor - which I switched from the old plastic housing to the new ... but the other hardware was included as i recall. I will look around to see if I can find more info.
Sorry - this was ez and inexpensive five years ago ... but I don't see the same part options today ... maybe someone with a recent fix can provide more current info.

I would just like to know the torque spec for the three bolts that hold the motor on?
Thanks for the answer to my question on tightening the three bolts. I had to play it by ear and just snugged them up. I told the owner that on the average according to the guy doing the clips at Hydraulic Tops, her top's components could fail at any time due to age and the heat during our summers. I told her about the upgraded parts from Hydraulic Top and she plans on doing a total replacement soon. So, I guess everything I've learned from this little project will be used again whenever she gets the parts. Thanks to everyone for all their help. I've worked on equipment that ran at 34,000 rpms and mechanical seals that had seal faces that their flatness had to be measured with light bands but, never had I worked on a Corvette convertible top before. Hopefully the top will work until the new parts get in and I can replace them. Thanks again.
