I have a 2007 corvette. I need to replace a red caliper. The parts dealer sent me a caliper that is grey with corvette on it.
So is this the wrong part or is the red actually a caliper cover that fits over this grey caliper.
If this is the wrong part does anyone know the correct part number.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Someone probably painted your caliper. You don't mention if you have a base or a z06, or a Z-51 optioned car. The only red caliper that came on a 2007 was the larger z06 brakes.
Thanks, for the quick reply. I have a bit of a mess on my hands. BG is literally building a C7 for me today. I have sold my 2007 to a private dealer who wants it ASAP. The left front caliper is making a clunky noise and I was told it was loose and needs replacing. The calipers are red. Now I'm told that was done aftermarket. Any ideas on how to remedy this situation? Is there a chance these are just covers that I can transfer to the new caliper?
Even the pedigree of the car is confusing. When I was C7 shopping one Chevy dealer described the car as a Z51 Indy 500 edition. That is clearly wrong as it is black. A VIN decoder described it as 3LT. I have no problem posting the VIN if that can help. It definitely is not a ZO6.
All the &#** caliper had to do is last one more week!
No one seems sure if they came red from the factory. The Corvette Black book does not mention anything about painted calipers RED in the z51 option blurb.
I bought my C6 used with 10K miles on it, a Z51 optioned car that did have the red calipers. I have the dealer brochure as well, and in 2006 Red was not a caliper option. The pics in the brochure show the C6 base/Z51 with dark gray color calipers. As mentioned, the pics of the Z06 show them with Red calipers, but different than base calipers. The brochure shows no option for red calipers.
Likely you can get a duplicolor kit in red and do the one that you purchased, or get it powder coated red.
The Corvette Black book mentions that in 2012, the option for painted calipers was introduced (RPO J6C) - Silver, (RPO J6D) - Gray, (RPO J6E) - Yellow, (RPO J6F) - Red
You can ask your dealer if that Red option is available to you for a replacement.
When the caliper arrived in gray I was so nonplussed that I failed to do what I should have done. Namely, look at the original freaking caliper. I can feel the red is a cover that extends past the actual caliper which is great news. I assume it will simply slide off and on. If not, I can simply buy a new set of four.
I'm really sorry about wasting people's time.
If anyone is on the fence about buying a c7 versus waiting for a c8, I'm going to offer some thoughts in the c8 forum later this evening.
I hope the boys and girls in BG had their minds on work today and not the upcoming three day weekend.
If the car has caliper covers on it just take them all off then everything matches. If they are not caliper covers get some red caliper paint and paint the new caliper before you install it. Be careful when bleeding the brakes, the brake fluid will take off the paint you just applied. Can you post a picture of that you have for us?
