Default Best Tires for Z06 and Place to buy From

I just bought a 2006 Z06 and the first thing it needs is tires. I looked on Tirack.com and one other site and it seemed the best choices are Michelin Pilot Sports, Firestone Indy 500, Hankook Ventus V12, and Nitto Invos. I'm not into drag racing, so I just need a good tire with grip, trustable in rain, and lasts the most miles possible. I found some reviews that stated the Michelin tires are overpriced and overrated. For all the other ones I seemed to mostly find positive comments and they are cheaper than the Michelins. It seemed like the Nitto tires had the most positive feedback.

If you have any recommendations I would appreciate your thoughts.

I personally would stick with the Michelins, they are expensive but you get what you pay for

You can pick grip or mileage, not both. In my experience the micheline have a lot of starting grip, but get hard and lose a ton of grip quickly. The invos have no grip and wont last, but do great in rain. I have the hankooks now, they have decent grip and a pretty good all around, plus they're priced well.

Just to be clear, the nitro invo is NOT a performance tire. It's a touring tire, and doesnt have grip on the same level as either of the others mentioned.

Thanks for the feedback. All the sites seem to advertise the Nitto's as a high performance tire. False advertising?

I have a 13 GS and will need tires one of these days.... I watch these tires discussions... I do light type garage queen driving but I do like them to hook up good in the summertime. Lots of choices ....I definitely want run flats.... I think if I bought them today... Firestone Run flats but maybe Michelins if I got a really good deal.

Depends on your goals and assuming no near freezing temps. my recommendations based on my experience. I've found my local shops more than willing to compete or best tire rack's prices so I'd ask around.

Michelin PS4S - Street tire, very good on track, excellent in rain, 2.5 seasons maybe 3 of life, non-run flat (currently on my car)

Michelin PS2 - Track oriented, street, light to mild rain conditions, 1.5 seasons avg life at best conditions

Continental Extreme Contact Sport - cheaper than PS4S but performs similar in dry, PS4S has edge in wet conditions

Thanks for feedback. I have been reading some good reviews on the Continentals.

I know it's not a particulary popular brand but I put on Hankook Ventus V12s and never looked back - went from squirrelly at every corner on the stock tires to driving on rails.

I also recommend TireRack - always a good deal there and they ship straight to your installer. May take a little patience - but you get the tire you want not the one the installer has and you get it for a good price.

I have Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires on my car. They grip really well, but they definitely make me uneasy at the thought of driving in the rain or wet conditions. Also assume this is partly due to the size of the wheels, but they definitely track to the grooves or cracks in the road. Can get interesting if its not a completely smooth surface. However I can punch it in 2nd gear and get pretty good grip. I've got just bolt ons on my Z

Look into the bridgstone potenza S007a available in c6z size. I ran indy500 then the S007a. They lasted me about the same amount of miles but the s007a had better grip. It's very similar to the RE11 it replaced but with better wet performance. They also cost similar to the indy500 so on the cheaper side.

Try not being penny-wise & dollar-foolish w/ a Z06's tires.
C6 Z06 deserves a great tire and great tires are never cheap.

Last Thurs replaced all 4 Michelins installed 6/15 20K ago on my '08 w/ 4 new Pilot Sports.
$1,600 OTD at a local shop installed, bal, tx, disposal fee.
May have sourced 'em for less @ various Internet sites. I paid for convenience while throwing a good shop a bone.
Someone still has to install, disposal, balance so get nailed on frontend or rearend.
They're amazing, been 4 years since I'd experienced such a sticky tire. Love 'em, worth every cent.

How old's TPMS modules?
May as well consider TPMS modules when tires are installed.
4 new Schraders nicked me $160, sourced from a GM dealer @ eBay. YMMV

I have debated long and hard about which tire to buy. My GS has 650HP and I need some grip from a street tire. My car rarely sees rain or is driven much so I was pretty set on R888R's as they were cheaper then Pilot Sport 2's. I am going on the Caravan this summer so I was concerned about rain and using up half of the R888R's life on a single road trip. After much thought I went with the PS4. I worked all sources and finally found a local Discount Tire that sold me 4 stock sizes, mount, balance, road hazard and tax for $1,456 plus Discount was offering a 10% mail-in rebate Memorial weekend. That brings my total to $1,320 all in. I'm pretty happy overall.

I don't have a Z06, but I diod just replace my tires and based on all the tire reviews that I read over a 3 month period, the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S was the best overall tire that I could find to check off all the boxes for a summwer performance tire. They rate highest in pretty much all categories.
I only looked at non runflats, so I do not have any data on the RF's.
This is but a small comparison of the tires I looked at. I also looked at the Indy 500's, Michelin AS3, etc. etc.

Bridgestone Potenza RE050A runflat. Great wet and dry traction, and from what I hear should run at least 35k miles. I read that they were developed for the Z06 when Bridgestone was trying to get the contract from Goodyear.

I put a set on my GS close to 4 years ago now. They have about 15k miles on them and I see very little treadwear. I have been very happy with them.

I bought Michelin A/S from Elco Chevrolet, mounted and balanced. I shopped around and they were a little cheaper than everyone else. When replacing your tires, be sure to replace your TMPS sensors since your car is an 06. The life expectancy of the batteries is 10 years old.
