I just had a recent experience of my car catching on fire while cruising in 92 degree weather.
The heat from engine bay and weather caused my clutch line to burst and it must have sprayed onto the header, which in turn caused a fire.
Is there a way I can install something like the new C7 Z06 that the car shuts off by itself when it is reaching unsafe temperatures?
I really do not want to have this happen again. Thank you to the community for your feedback!
Best thing is to put a heat insulating wrap around any clutch, transmission, or oil lines. Also, if your headers are not coated, getting them ceramic coated will also help.
Any failsafe that will shut the car off because of overheating will do nothing to prevent things catching on fire.
Also, good idea to carry a fire extinguisher in the car.
This is pretty scary to think about. Didn't another poster have the same issue with his Z06? I think he was also supercharged. Wonder how much that attributes to the issue? I have an HCIE N/A Z06.
Did you have a fire extinguisher on hand to put it out? Glad to hear that you put the fire out in time. Best of luck with fixing the issue!
