Need some advice/ideas with a problem I'm having with my 2010 GS A6 with 75K miles....
This morning sitting at a red light waiting to turn onto the base I work at, my 2010 GS start idling very rough, RPMs surging between 500-800. The DIC chimed and showed "Service Active Handling System" and "Service Traction Control". I limped the car to work doing no faster than 25 mph. I went to back it into a parking spot, when I put it into reverse and gave it gas, the car stalled out. It took about 5-10 seconds to start it back up. The motor was turning but not starting.... Here are my thoughts:
- I don't think it's a broken valve spring, I didn't hear noticeable knocking from the motor nor had a CEL
- Since the motor is turning but not starting, I think it's fuel related
- I took my vette to the dealership for the fuel smell warranty/special coverage that's affected a lot of people. The dealership replaced the fuel pump per the special coverage, but they said the car "isn't running right". They put a new fuel pump in but still had the same problem. They eventually figured out the mechanic didn't plug in a connector (they didn't say which one), the mechanic plugged the connector in and the car ran fine.
- I haven't done any troubleshooting with the vette yet, I had to leave it at work to come home for AC repairs in my house
What do yall think? Thanks in advance for your thoughts and advice!

Take the top off install favorite tunes go for a long drive. Maybe stop at Mcdonalds for a ice cream cone. Could also share the above with someone special.

If you have a code reader, hook it up and see what it can tell you. The warnings on the DIC don't mean much. probably just caused by voltage swings when running rough. I agree, start with plugs and wires since it happened suddenly. Check that the fuel pump is running and then check rail pressure.
How long ago was the fuel pump work? If it was recent then it could be something they did or even the new pump died.
Was it running bad before they worked on it? If not I'd bring it back for them to fix what they broke.
It was running fine, just had that fuel smell as described on the stickie on this board. As others mentioned, I’m gonna check the plug wires, if they’re good it’s gonna go right back to the dealership.
First thing you always do is to check for a loose plug wire.
Most definitely. I had to have my wife pick me up from work (vette is still at my work) to bring me home to meet an AC tech because I was having AC problems. I'll be checking the plug wires later tonight/in the morning. If the plug wires are good, I'm gonna have it towed to the dealership. Thanks for the reply man, much appreciated!

The fuel pump work was done in March or April (can't remember which off the top of my head). Re: code reader, I'll check to see if it pulls any codes (I have a Diablo tuner that can read codes). What throws me off though is if it was a loose plug wire, would I be getting a CEL for a misfire on the offending cylinder? From experience, when I had a broken valve spring, the CEL was P0300, Random Misfire....
A bad plug wire gave me traction control and active handling codes.A forum member told me to check them or I never would have thought it could throw those codes.

- Broken valve spring: Extremely remote
- Motor turning over but not starting: Could be fuel OR spark
- If the dealer work was done in March/April and it's been running fine since, then the problem probably isn't related to what they did.
Rule of thumb: Always rule out the most common, simplest, and most easily-checked things first -- then work backwards. The first on that list would be the spark plug wire (which has already been suggested by someone above) which seems to be pretty common for some reason on these cars.
FWIW, in over 50 years of driving, I cannot recall ever having a plug wire falling off, except maybe when I was young and bought cheapos cuz I didn't want to spend the extra money for OEM. Did parts suppliers somehow unlearn how to make good plug boots?
Thanks everyone for the replies; I’m going to have it towed to my house today and do some more troubleshooting. I did check the plug wires and they were all good to go.
Here’s a video from this morning and a pic. I noticed extra black soot on the center exhaust tips. This is different cuz I’ve never noticed it before when I was the vette about once a week.
