Life expectancy of AC Delco Battery
The date stamp on my AC Delco battery is August 2016. My car is an '06 base convertible. When should I be concerned about replacing it?
Thanks

The average car battery lasts somewhere between 2 and 5 years, after that there are probably too many variables to accurately predict life span. Weather, temperature, storage, maintenance, length of average trip, ect, all play a roll in battery life.

Mine lasted 9 years.
I bought the car new in 2007. Replaced it in 2016. It didn't need it. I just had it at the dealer for something else, and I had them put in a new one.

I don’t care who makes the battery or how many months they warranty it. Once it hits 4 years old, it gets replaced. Been stuck by too many batteries older than 4 years that were fine one minute and dead the next.

6 years in my 2007. It was on a Battery Tender from day one. First sign of trouble was it would not recognize the FOB. Not a DD but a garage queen. Replaced with an Interstate and sold the car the following year.

The battery was in the car when I purchased it last August 2018. I live in the North East and had a trickle charger on it all winter. I think I'll try to keep it for one more year. The voltage sits around 13.5 v when driving. I was just curious about experinces with it.

Retired & lovin' it!
Original AC Delco in my '05 was good thru 7 years with no problems....always on a tender when in home garage. Probably would have gone on longer but got a good deal on an Optima Red Top & changed it out. The Red Top has now also been going for 7 years with no problems. Again regularly on tender except when on trips. Vette is a weekend driver so battery in a DD or without a tender may not have same life.

Just replaced the OEM battery in my 2013 GS, so 6 or 7 years old. Was still working but car seemed a little slower starting. Car is stored in a garage with a battery tender.
Just be aware the battery from the factory had a gray label and a different part number then the one the dealers stock with a blue label . . . although both say AC Delco..
Good luck.

I carry a Noco li-ion starter so if the battery fails, I can use the Noco to start the car and drive to have the battery tested/replaced. No need to replace prematurely on a whim.

I got just over 6 years and 1 month on a stock AC Delco without any Battery Tender. It lasted from when it was installed at the factory I guess. I purchased the Z in December 2012 and it died somewhere toward the end of January 2018.

I got my 2013 in June of 2012. This last month it died. So I got 7:years and 37K out of the original one.
On another car, my 1968 Camaro which I have owned for 51 years and it now has 206K on it. I have totally restored it and it only goes to cars and coffee and shows. I got 15 years out of the last battery in it. I disconnect the negative whenever it is parked. My 4 car garage has its own furnace so it is heated during the winter.

The warranty date code is located on the top label of the battery. The first character is either a P or S. The next two digits determine the month, the third digit is year and the fourth digit indicates the manufacturing plant. For example, P 094N means the battery was made in September 2014.

If your Corvette sits for months at a time as many do, life expectancy of the battery will diminish. If it’s driven regularly, odds of a long life increase dramatically.
