Default Winter Storage.....

Yep, it's mid-July, but in my location we need to start thinking about winter storage by mid-September with hopes of not putting toys away until late October or so. Question is, what do you do to store your C6? I will most likely be storing mine off-site, so a battery tender won't be able to be used, as the car may end up in a big warehouse-type space with other people's toys, I had a C4 for 33 years and never did anything except to disconnect the battery and put a cover on it. No fuel additive, no jackstands, etc. And, every spring, I'd take the cover off, hook up the battery and start it right up and drive it home to reset the clock and radio stations....no issues at all. Guess I'm a bit concerned with all the electronics and programmed things on the C6, like the seat memory, etc. Aside from a little inconvenience, what else should I be concerned about regarding storing the car from, say early Nov to early April while our annual 10 feet of snow piles up?

Store mine late Oct till end of March. Change oil, disconnect battery, usually about half tank of gas, wash wax, and cover.

^ What's the reasoning for half a tank of gas? I've heard arguments for completely full or as close to empty as possible, but never half full.

Guess my thinking it keeps the fuel gauge and pump covered then in the spring add fresh gas to top off. Probably does not matter in the least OCD thing.

I believe half tank of fuel means the passenger side tank is empty and drives side tank is full. With passenger side empty the sender unit is exposed which may help cause a failure of sending unit as finicky as these sender units are.
Just saying.

I had my 2011 GS stored in my closed garage for a year while I was out of the country.

1. Add Sta-Bill to the fuel tank (drive the car for a few miles so the Sta-Bill is fully mixed and throughout the complete fuel system)

2. Wash the car

3. Air the tires up to about 35-40 PSI

4. Disconnect the battery

5. Install car cover
__________________________________

Once you are back to diving the car again:

1. Charge the battery and then connect it when fully charged

2. Set the tire pressure to 30 PSI

3. Re-index the windows
_________________________________

The tires will be flat-spotted pretty bad and ride rough ... but after you get some miles on the car, the flat-spotting will sooner or later go away.

If using Stabil it's best to use the product for ethanol.

Looks like I spelled 'Sta-Bil' wrong in my previous post

Anyway, I used the Sta-Bil since the car would not be run for a year ... but, if I just had to put the car away for something like 6 months or less, I don't think I would even bother using it.

I don’t use anything while my car is stored for 5 months through the winter.

Parking mine in my garage, going to bring it out and drive it in the cold when the weather cooperates. Watching this thread though, going to be storing it for a while.

I live in Alberta. Store in unheated rental storage. I do this:
  • change oil
  • wash and clean inside and out
  • fill gas tank to 3/4
  • fill tires to 40#
  • park it
  • open hood
  • shut all doors and lock it
  • take out battery
  • leave hood unlatched
  • give her one last look for the winter
  • cover it
  • close and lock the storage until the spring
  • keep battery in a plastic bucket in basement
