I have an 06, and I often wonder when my cable will break 
Here is instructions on replacing the C5 cable. I'm assuming the C6 should be the same procedure.

Hood release cables
I replaced the cables on my 2006 c6 Base, very easy to do, hood open, remove one screw holding release control at driver's kick panel, I then use sharp pencil to out line each hood latch (2) to be sure I could relocate both, then the both hood latch's need to be removed to remove cables. Hardest part was after removing old cables, was installing new cables., two people make it so much easier, I did it by myself and had to be under dash and under hood at the same time..... make sure you have no kinks in cables and remember how the old ones ran and where they were attached to. I'm guessing it was a 45 min job.
