Hi I have this 2005 c6 that when I hit the start button I get a loud click and nothing. This just started happening and I'm not sure if it's something electronic or a bad starter.
but everything appears to shut down for a few seconds then all appears normal until I try to start the car again and same thing all over again.
I had same issues and symptoms. Replaced battery and battery cable connectors as previous owners had changed OEM connectors and they were too small. Battery was ok but tested a little weak and mechanic thought it would fail soon. Everything was fine for a week or so then issue popped up again, on inconsistent basis. Replaced starter and no issues since.
Just had the same issue with my 2007. Pushing start button would give single click and show check engine light but nothing else. Releasing clutch would give normal light show. Turned out to be starter and a bad/weak battery. replaced both and working ok since.
I have this exact same symptom with my 2008 A6 car. Very random though. Car can sit over a week and starts right up. Gauge shows charging normally. shut it off at a gas station or something and it will do it. Sounds and acts almost like a bad ground or poor connection on mine. When I hear the loud click it seems like the car loses power. I hit it again sometimes once, sometimes takes 3 or 4 times and it starts. I have to go through it and check all battery connections and grounds.
I will test the battery and pop the starter out to have my buddy go through it. I know what a normal car sounds like when the battery is low or the starter is bad, this doesn't sound like either but I have never had a push button start car either so I am not ruling that out. It actually sounds more like an electrical "snap/pop" like what you get if the battery post is corroded or loose. I will check those and clean them as well when I check the load. I wasn't sure if there was some inherent quirk these cars have like the shifter cable issue. Thank you for all the replies and suggestions. Hopefully the OP and I both get these cars figured out!
This happens about once a year for me. I’ll go out and when I sit in the car, it doesn’t make those little sounds....then won’t turn over. I take off the pos cable for ten minutes and put it back on and it starts.
It's an 05, which means there's a good possibility this is a column lock problem. Only the C5s and the 2005 C6s have this problem. Even a dealership will miss that one. I know mine did.
