No problems with Safelite. I removed the OnStar box(C6 owners notice it right away when they ride in the car and some then remove theirs) for good, and the mirror has not been a problem. I told them I had a HUD and they took care of everything.

Local Glass is probably using some kind of aftermarket. Get the GM stuff.
Here are prices for GM windshield both with HUD & w/o. I’ve also noticed Safelite quotes different prices based on your zip code. Needed the windshield replaced on our family vehicle and thought I would get it done while I was in IL visiting family. It was $250 more in IL than it was in TX for the same windshield. I waited until I got home.

One can only assume you don’t have glass coverage on your insurance policy. If you did the cost regardless of how much would be unimportant. No deductible on comprehensive.

I have glass coverage on the Vette but some people don’t so they should know how much a windshield actually costs. Unfortunately, glass coverage is offered on my insurance policy for my other vehicles.
HUD works just fine on a non-HUD windshield. Save yourself a bunch of money.
From what I've heard, read and seen in person, it's a 50/50 shot as to whether or not a HUD works just fine on a non-HUD windshield. Like you, some say it works just as well, others say and I've seen where the display is blurry and hard to see on a non-HUD windshield.

I can only comment from the my experience adding HUD to my non-HUD equipped car & I would say there is a very, very slight blur at certain angles. However, the actual GM price of the HUD windshield is just slightly more than the non-HUD. I’ve just seen several posts of places charging $1000-1500 for the HUD windshield vs $500 for the non-HUD.

Non HUD windshield installed here and I cannot see any difference in the display at all.
Thanks to others on this forum for pointing this out.

No such deal in Arkansas. Full deductable applies. Plus it is not broken, only looks pitted.
