In addition to making sure the partition is in place, verify that your windows index. If they don't, then the top will not work until you re-index them.
Check the owners manual for how to index the windows. Indexing is where the windows move down slightly when opening the door, then back up when closing to ensure a tight seal.
From memory, turn the ignition on (run mode), lower the window, then raise it, holding the switch for several seconds after the window is all the way up. May have to do it for the passenger window too.
If that doesn't help, see if the top will raise and lower in accessory mode (not run). That's helped me in the past when my top wouldn't operate. Don't forget, if you have a manual (like me), the E-Brake has to be engaged.
Tried again after starting the car and the DIC said the trunk lid was ajar (first time I got that message) , It wasn’t so I opened it and closed it. The DIC then said the trunk cover wasn’t closed.(first time I got that message) I opened the trunk and it was not closed, but I checked it earlier and it was closed.
I closed, the cover, closed the trunk put the windows up and started the car.
Opened the roof latch, at this time the windows automatically went down. I pushed the roof down button and it worked??
There's a sensor on the right side of the cover in the trunk and if the cover isn't snapped right, that top won't move. We've probably all had that happen. Glad you figured it out.
After you try all of the above, it could be what happened to me. My top would open and close intermittently until one night I got soaked in the pouring rain. The top would not close. Time to bring it in to my local dealer. They determined that some electrical module was the culprit. They would over night the part from some where and would not be covered under warranty because the car was 4 months past. The mechanic told me that when the car was assembled, too much grease was used and dripped on the module and shorted it. The dealer had the car for 5 days and cost me $1100. I wrote to GM customer service and they denied my claim. The car has been ok since. Good luck.
