I have a 2009 vert and my #1 fob was ailing. I had difficulty opening it up to check the battery and found that it had been glued together. Small black pieces of plastic from the case fell out. This prompted me to order a new #1 fob. I received the new fob and started the fob program sequence. I received two great sets of instructions from CF for this procedure. First I attempted to recognize my #2 fob and the five key turns under five seconds would not activate the procedure and recognize my fob. I was not getting any "beep" or display "Ready for FOB # ". I glued my #1 fob back together with a new battery and it would open the doors, turn on engine and all other functions. Putting #1 fob in to the glove box slot and turning the key in the trunk release five times under five seconds produced no results as with the #2 fob. I tried over 20+ times turning the key five times under five seconds with no results. I read in my procedures that an aftermarket radio might keep this procedure from happening. I had installed a Kenwood DNX 573S several years ago and installed the harness for the door beeps and OnStar and other security features. I caulked it up to the aftermarket radio causing the problem.
Spin forward a week. I attended a gathering called "Corvettes & Presidents" in the Black Hills last weekend. Through the years of attending we all had rear mounted antennas for CBs so that we could communicate. As time went on the CBs have become a thing of the past. I had a stainless steel bracket that mounted behind the rear registration plate for my CB antenna which had a quick disconnect when not in use. We longer used them so I decided to remove the bracket and wiring.
I thought I would try the five key turns in under five seconds after I had removed the SS bracket/plate. The first time it started the sequence and I was able to recognize my key fobs and start the long procedure to program #1, #2 and #3 fobs. (I wanted the new fob to be #1 and the old #1 to become #3 as a backup fob). The C6 fob programming went off without a hitch and all three fobs are now recognized in the glove box slot.
I believed that the SS bracket/plate was interfering with the rear lock antenna module located by the rear trunk latch. While I was removing the CB antenna wire I checked the wire connections on both rear lock antenna modules and they appeared to be fine. My remote has always opened the trunk.
