Default Window Indexing

Help, window on Drivers side goes up a little over half way and stops, if I continue to hold the button up it try's to close (small up/down motion) but will not go all the way up. I have tried all the suggestions regarding re-indexing and nothing is working. Disconnected the battery again for the 5th time and did what the book recommends and still nothing.

Just to be sure, this is what you tried AFTER the car battery was reconnected, right?

With the engine running and the window down, close the car door. Raise the window and hold the up switch an extra 3 seconds. Release. Without lowering the window, hold the up switch again for 3 seconds. Release. Done. Don't forget the other window.

This will need to be done to both windows every time the car battery is disconnected, then reconnected, or when a new battery is installed in the car.

Yep, that is what I tried after the battery was reconnected.

It started this when I got in the car to leave, I put the window down and it would not go back up all the way. That's when I read in the discussion about re-indexing. I then disconnected the battery and tried all the suggestions. nothing worked.

You are trying the indexing with the door closed I presume. it will not work otherwise.

if the door is closed and it will not go up, but will go down, I am guessing that the cable on the window regulator has frayed and is binding at a certain location.
The exact same thing happened to my passenger window. The window would not go up all the way, but would go down. When I took the interior door panel off, and looked at the regulator, it was easy to see that the cable had frayed and was binding up.
I purchased a new regulator and installed it and no more issues.

Sounds more and more like it's a window regulator and not just a window indexing issue -

It may be time to replace the window regulator -

Thanks.Matt
