Hello, I just made a trade for a 2005 c6 “Lingenfelter” ls2 manual transmission about 6 hours ago and my first gear just went out out of the blues and it was working great at first then started grinding a bit, then in 2nd it makes a wired clunky noise at times when accelerating and now each gear started somewhat acting up right after all of this. like it was rough to put in gear and then the problem would go away for a moment and come back, except for 1st gear that it just wont go in at all mind you this just happened from one second to the other. The clutch is hanging mid way, so I assume that’s bad as well. Now the sad part is I just traded for the car and at first it was driving extremely good 3 hours into my drive home before all of this started to happen. My question is, will I have to rebuild the tranny? Or synchros? Or is there something else causing it. I’d like to keep the car since it’s worth keeping but trying to figure out what exactly is up with it before I go calling shops.
If you traded it in at a dealer, didn’t they have a 30 day warranty ?
And don’t get me wrong if it something crazy I’ll get my trade back but Maybe there’s a helpful source here and I can get an idea of what it may be because it can be several things or the tranny is just jacked but before taking action I’m looking for a solution because I’d like to keep it.
How many miles car have?
Syncros is my first guess, isn't unheard of 1 or more go bad.
2nd guess bad master, lousy design using cheap materials to start with and also cheapest to remedy.
Tranny has to be dropped, opened & inspected so cause can then be determined & fix implemented.
Unfortunately sure sounds like seller pulled a fast one, passing a hot potato he knew of to you. Stinks.
Ligenfelter's a very good upgrade &, expensive akin to a Calloway, IMO repair worth the $.
Is the pedal dropping or slightly dropping? Look into failing master cylinder before assuming it's the tranny, that can cause grinding, hard to go into gear etc...Also mine is after market and would slowly drop after driving for awhile, checked all the lines and was able to tighten up master to slave just a smudge and that helped significantly.

Yep, check out the master. But it sounds like its something in the drive line. If you do your own work its going to add about $1000 to car for clutch and hydraulics for example just in parts. If you are going to have it done maybe $1000+ on top of that. A dealer would be more than a competent independent but you get the idea.
I guess its going to depend on what you originally paid for the car, if you want to keep it, and if you could do it yourself.
You probably just need a clutch and new master/slave. If you do happen to need a transmission, I am pulling mine out in short order (Z51) and replacing it with a Z06 trans/diff. PM me if you are interested.

I can work on it but this is a job I’m not to comfy with luckily I remembered a buddy of mine has a shop and works on all of this cars so I got a decent price for labor.

Good to know WTH's happening. Better yet a deal on labor.
Since rear has to be dropped anyway, consider the upgraded collars (?) for synchs also.
Supposedly newe design/material used for these components insures longer synch life.
No C6 owner wants to go through the rear end crap twice, what can be done (upgraded) is done once is important.
