Whats the downside to leaving my car outside covered for the winter? I can garage at home but just not a great option for me. I have a wheelchair van which has a drop down ramp. So, not that much room for the Vette. I live in NH so we see a decent amount of snow, sleet and freezing rain up thru April.
Nothing different than any other car under a cover. I'd probably disconnect the battery and bring it inside if it's going to be under snow for some time.
I parked my C6 outside the first year I had the car. I tried to get a garage built, but couldn't get a contractor to do it before winter. I parked it with a stretch cover on the car, and a tarp over the stretch cover. With the change in temps, the car sweated like crazy, under those covers. In the Spring, the aluminum in the engine compartment had some oxygen/moisture corrosion on it. It did wipe off and was able to be shined, but it is something that I would not do again.
If I had to leave it outside, I would buy a portable garage for it. The other option is to buy a bubble capsule.
My son had a portable garage and it kept the car weather free, and with air circulation so it didn't sweat.
The portable garages are super easy to put up and take down.
If you live in a very windy environ, over a long winter, even the best car cover will move back and forth against the finish, and possibly result in loss of clear coat. I think it is less damaging to just park it in the weather than cover it up. Dealers in your area have vehicles that sit in the open all winter, and do not get damaged. JMO, though.
