My son stuffed my Xmas stocking with a Porter Cable DA, Meguiars 105, 205 & #21 sealant. I spent about 12 hours yesterday & another 5 today cleaning, claying & learning how to use the PC.
The previous owner didn’t take much care of the paint and I should have tackled this a long time ago. I had lots of swirls & all the cleaning and polishing allowed me to see I have a lot of scratches & minute chips all over. That being said - the paint looks 100% better than it did but Is far from perfect. I don’t think it’s too bad for my first attempt.
I have been giving some serious thought about doing the exact same thing. The finish on my ride is pretty rough too, not well cared for when I got it two months ago. Put it in storage right after I got it, crappy winter weather in Ohio. Do you think it’s worth the time and effort? I found a combo kit on Autogeek for about $180 has all I would need.
I actually find it very relaxing working on my cars, so the number of hours I spend on it doesn’t phase me. I’ve done all the modifications myself; exterior, interior & performance. I just turn on the music in the garage & go to work.
I do want to spend some more time cleaning & detailing the undercarriage, polishing up all the suspension components, etc. I could’ve paid a detailer but I get more satisfaction learning & doing things myself. Plus I get to teach my kids how to do these things as well. My 10 & 11 yr old son & daughter helped me install the sound deadening in the interior, the new stereo equipment (head unit, sub & amp) & helped with the detailing. My 17 yr old son helped with the header & exhaust install.
The modern M205/105 and a DA makes it almost idiot proof. That said, the car still looks great although you seemed to have polished off your front emblem.
Looks great. I have all the right equipment but don't have the patience anymore. I've got my wife's '20 Cad XT6 (Metallic Black), my 20 Denali diesel and Corvette all lined up to be paint corrected then ceramic coated. I'm getting way to lazy for that stuff. Very nice job on your part.
You missed your calling in life, should of been a car detailer.
Maybe after I retire, but then again I don’t really like working on other people’s cars, just my own.

This is true, I’m sure my 10 & 11-year olds could’ve done just as good a job & yes I removed the front emblem - I really hate where Chevy placed it in the middle of the scoop.
