Once upon I time I tried the fishing line business. I decided it would take line strong enough to land a shark. The acetone thing is a risk I'm not willing to take.

I'm with you, no acetone near my car. WD40 or any other oiling substance works on goo. Thanks

Goo gone. And as for fishing line use thin 7 lb test. It's the sawing motion not the thickness that cuts the glue

I've been using acetone on my cars for 20+ years.

It has never hurt factory or (properly cured) body shop paint. It will take off touch-up paint, though. And it's a heck of a lot less elbow grease than goo-gone. .

I’m in a business where our trucks and vans have vinyl graphics. Before trading we remove them and it is a task. Paint experts told us NEVER use acetone. That’s all I needed to hear.
