I am looking for a C6 Z51 that I can use for HPDE events. I have read that the 2008 improved the steering in addition to other upgrades. My question is how much better is the steering on the 2008 over a 2006? Can the 2006 steering be brought up to the level of the 2008 relatively cheaply. It seems like a 2006-2007 can be had for around $3,000 to $4,000 cheaper than the 2008-2009. If the steering is really that much better on the 2008 I’ll just bite the bullet and buy one. If it’s close I’ll go with the 2006-2007. I’m not concerned about the extra 30 hp.
Thanks for the reply Dan. I read the Car and Driver article and they made it sound the the difference was night and day.
On track it is noticeable. But unfortunately there's not a great way to upgrade to it. It's a magnasteer system, you can do things like steering rack bushings, but it won't do everything.

A couple of years ago I had an exchange with a new forum member about the earlier C6 Corvette that they had just bought. He loved the car but hated the steering feel. He spent a bit of money trying various things to improve the steering feel but nothing he tried satisfied him. He ended up selling the car and buying a later model C6 after his brother bought one and he drove his brothers car.
That is my biggest dislike as well since I love the car except for the steering. I love spirited driving on twisty winding roads and it doesn't take long before I get the feeling like I've just had a wrestling match with a Gorilla. I've driven the same roads in an Audi that had electric power steering taking those same turns at tire howling speeds and never got a cardio workout while doing it.
