CAGS never bothered me, I think I've only had it activate once or twice and when it does I simply put it into 3rd.
If you're driving it conservatively enough to trigger it that often (why it happens), why not just let it do its thing and save you some mileage?
Because the car should do what you demand, not the other way around.

one... it doesn't save you mileage...two its annoying...three the fuse cost a buck 40...and you'll never get caught in fourth then you don't want it in fourth...
fuse/cags/tune it out/ all work...fuse is cheap..hell you can even do the cags for the price of a resister and electrical tape and a crawl up under the car...That is back in the fbod days with my 2001 TA..
