2I am needing to replace my tires and I was looking at the Firestone Indy 500's. I have the standard 245/40/18 front and 325/30/19's on the rear (wide body rear conversion). Currently have the Michelin PS2.
I'm running the Firestone wide ovals and if I remember correctly I read on this forum that Firestone was stopping production on its corvette tires. I have gotten great mileage out of Firestones on the vette and my silverado is on its second set.
Ok thanks, but not sure what you mean by Corvette tires. I did find them listed on the Tire rack, Tires Plus and Firestone sites. I guess I need to make some calls.
Interesting. I too read that they were no longer making them in Corvette sizes. I have 30,045 miles on mine and they still look great. (I am currently on a road trip in Arizona and am still impressed with the ride). Hate to see them go if they are no longer in production.

I just replaced my Firestone Wide Ovals and had to go with Michelin Pilot Sports because the tire shop told me the Firestones were no longer made. He said he could still get them but they would be old stock that just had not sold yet. That didn't sound good to me so I changed brands.

Hey Tony,
Notice any ride difference? (You were the one that convinced me to go Firestone)!

I put a set of Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires on my vette last fall, they are great tires and stick to the road like glue.. I can't imagine they would stop making them for vettes, its one of their best selling sports tires, you had better recheck your source of information.........WW
Have had them on my 06 now for about 7 years. Very good mid priced tire. No problems at all. Sure they aren't the greatest performance tire ever made, but they handle well......relatively quiet.....shed water fairly well.....etc.Very glad I got them and didn't fall into that over priced Michelin trap.
I put Wide Ovals on my C6. They were great tires...quiet and comfortable ride. Its unfortunate that they will no longer be made. They were MUCH better tires than the GY's that came on the car from the factory and reasonably priced.
I ran Indy 500's (older version) for 3 tire changes. Once they changed to the new tread design, I switched to Michelin PS 4S. I loved the indy 500's as they were great for our many years of road trips. Great dry and wet traction grip, so I was never worried about getting caught in rain.
The PS 4S are comparable to the Indy 500 for grip, in both dry and wet conditions.
The way I understand it, the wide oval Indy 500 NRF tires were discontinued in 2016. Had a set prior to the Conti ExtremeContact Sports running now.
The newer design Indy 500’s from all I’ve read might be the best tire value available (seems to be among them anyway). Grip, rain, even track performance based reviews I’ve seen mostly consist of very favorable surprise. They’re summer tires, so implied exception being cold weather.

No real difference at all between the two. Ride, grip, road noise all seem the same. Seems like a good option. I only have a few thousand miles on them so I can't tell how long they will last. Those Friestones were fantastic. I hope these do something similar.
they are not stopping production on the correct sizes, though they may not have the highest top speed rating, or other factors. The Indy 500 is "W" rated, meaning max of 168MPH. Most others are "Y" rated, for 186MPH. Look into the Hankook Ventus v12, which is very grippy, good tire life, and rated "Y". Also, very reasonable.
I also noticed you say you are running 335's on the rear. Isn't 325 the original Z size?

Tony, what he said is not absolutely truthful. What I've read is the sizes will continue to be made, though the speed-rating may not. Regardless, you bought the tires which he had in stock, His statement that they would have been "old stock" is laughable.
I would like to hear what differences you see between the 'stones and Mich's. I am considering new tires, as well.
(Edited to clarify that Firestone will NOT stop making tires for the Vette, but will stop producing the Wide Ovals for the Vette).

It appears Firestone will NOT stop making Wide Oval tires for the Vette, but may stop producing others for the Vette. The current Wide Oval on their site is a RF tire. Tirerack still shows Indy 500's available.

Jim,
I was just talking about the Wide Ovals. My mistake if I didn't clarify. I went with Michelin and so far I am really happy with them. They are at least as good as my old Wide Ovals. If they wear like the Firestones, I would buy them again for sure.
