I Looked up the past threads on SHIFT TO REVERSE and can't shut off my 05 manual transmission. I got the AC Delco 89060011 switch and replaced the old one, BOTTOM ONE
The battery went dead, so I unhooked the negative wire and recharged a new 1 month old battery. After replacing the switch, I unhooked the positive on the battery and touched the + / - leads together to discharge the capacitor. After hooking up the battery and getting in the car, the instrument lights came on, and so did the SHIFT TO REVERSE message. AND the car doesn't want to start.
WHAT AM I MISSING????
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jim
Not sure what you mean when you say can't shut off your manual transmission. Are you asking if there is some way to get past the requirement to shift into reverse upon shut down of the engine? There might be but I am not aware of it. My 05 must be placed into reverse otherwise the battery will run down very quickly. Sometimes, I think the 05's were designed by a panel of attorneys! One suggestion is to install a battery cut-out where you simply unscrew a thumb twist bolt and it disconnects all power. If you do that and hook up a battery tender you will significantly limit battery issues.
Only year requiring reverse at park was man '05, so we're talking '05. Right?
Your complaint isn't very clear, I'm sure it's me.
Will say if an '05's put in reverse when parked battery's supposed to be safe, according to GM.
That's it.
Now if car won't start?
Good place to start is checking clutch switch, it's either bad or came loose.
If it comes loose it doesn't 'make' upon clutch depression, car will not start under any circumstance.

G/L, check that clutch switch & report back.
Just my comments ... If it helps ....
It is only the 2005 that has the "shift to reverse"
You should always put any manual in reverse with the e-brake when parking
The 2005 has TWO reverse sensors
(Guess) could be the clutch pedal sensor as Landru stated
(Guess) disconnect a good battery for 30 mins .... then try again
(Guess) make sure all the connections - battery in particular - are good and tight.
It is an 2005 Manual 6 speed transmission. According to posts I read about this, there is a switch (2) on the trans, top one is for reverse lights, bottom is an ignition switch. The car turned off, it just gives a message '' SHIFT TO REVERSE" and the ACC stays on and the horn beeps constantly until you get out and close the door. But then the lights stay on.
I always put the car in reverse and use the E brake. You have to for everything to work right, The car IS in reverse, I backed it up 3 feet and shut it off and it does the same thing- SHIFT TO REVERSE
I replaced the sensor, and charged the battery- even had the battery tested. It's good.
Where is the clutch switch? On the pedal or on the clutch?

The T56 in the 2005 has two tran detent switches (2006 and laster just had the one detent switch). One of for the back up lights, while the other is for the switch to reverse. https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/ZxQAA...5qp/s-l500.jpg
So did you replace the correct trans detent sensor to begin with? If yes, and the detent switch is not working, then trans has to come apart to fix it linkage part that pushes the detent ball in when you put the trans in reverse. If detent ball is being pressed in with trans in reverse, then time to start checking wires for it to the BCM to see where the wires are broken. Note, get under the car, pull the detent switch connectors with the trans in reverse, and make sure that you have continuity through both sensor pin sets.
The clutch pedal switches (top and bottom) have nothing to do with the reverse detent circuit for the BCM to show that the trans is in reverse, to put the modules into sleep mode once the car is shut off.
Would the car start before you replaced the switch? Now the car will not start with the new switch, therefore, logic would indicate that the failure point is the switch.
When you say that “it doesn’t want to start”, what does that actually mean? Does the engine turn over?
Jim84. Did you ever fix your problem with the faulty "Shift To Reverse" message on your DIC?
Dutch08 Is there any information to tell which sensor is for the Reverse lights and which is for the shift to reverse control?
My 2005 just gave me this notice today. It is shifted into Reverse and it stays in the accessory mode with the DIC message "Shift To Reverse". Does not shut down the computer.

Thanks for the update. I think I found what I need to know on U Tube.
Fortunately, for the '06, which I have, one must only shift to 1st before killing engine. Easier than Reverse. I think the same dimwits (shift to R) are responsible for the 1-4 Skip shift, which of course, we all do diligently to increase MPG. Yeah, right! I've had mine for seventeen years and have NEVER shifted 1-4. I know this doesn't answer your question, just adding my $.02 worth, for what it's worth! I hope all Corvette owners have a great and happy Thanksgiving!
