Researching Cams
I'm currently researching Cams. I have a 2009 Base w Headers, Xpipe and CAI. Looking into doing a Cam next. Not looking to be aggressive. Something mild/medium that will be good for spirited driving "stoplight to stoplight". Lower end and middle power over top end.
Any opinions/recommendations, info on what else I should do simultaneously, what I should expect cost to be with labor, etc, is greatly appreciated...

I got a stage 1 Texas Speed cam in my Z06 and I really like it, not as aggressive as it sounds.....I already had heads done...headers, exhaust...I didn't do anything else. The only reason I got it was I had a lifter take a **** so I needed a new cam and decided to upgrade a bit for basically the same money. I got the tune done for basically free so I couldn't pass it up. I didn't want anything big and all that, I already had a supercharged cammed C5 and I don't miss the headaches.
cost is basically dependent on what you need / do plus tuning....need to update your timing chain? lifters, springs, balancer.....you will need gaskets...labor ...you can control the costs to some extent but sometimes its just easier to replace / upgrade some stuff while you are there

Below about 1200 rpm it surges under load sometimes, but I am getting used to it, and can control it to a point. Only bad when in a parking lot going real slow. All other times just select a different gear.

I have a Kaotic cam from Vengeance Racing and I’m very happy with it. They suggested this cam specifically for “driveabilty.” It’s not too radical to make the car tough to drive around town. The car actually shakes when I’m at a full stop. I’m running it with long tube headers into Corsa Sport exhaust and it’s very quiet at 45MPH......unless I decide to hit the accelerator.

You're going to get a bunch of different answers for this one and everyone's opinion will differ on "driveability". More importantly, are you doing the work yourself or taking it to a shop? If you're taking it to a shop, I'd decide on a quality and reputable shop and discuss your goals with them. If they primarily focus on LS/LT related vehicles, they should be able to give you options and potentially even ride along with someone that has a cam that might be ideal for you.

A little steep but not too bad. If you trust them and they aren't that far from you, absolutely worth it. "Money isn't as valuable in the LS world as knowing who to trust."
I've been "researching cams" for many years.
