I’m changing plugs on my ‘11 GS and tore the boot on a MSD wire. Don’t like them anyway as the boot is much longer than OE. Soft and hard to get off. What 8.5 mm wires are folks using? Need to get something on order. Thx.
FYI, the oem spark plug wires, and the oem spark plugs have a higher resistance for a reason.
With low resitance plugs and wires, you can have the Coils cause RF noise in the system from not enough resistance suppression.
The RF noise makes is way back to the ECM, and since the ECM controls the voltage of the alternator, enough RF noise to the ECM, and the alternator is now putting out a much lower voltage isntead due to incorrect control from the ECM. Hence can cause the service charging system problems, when there is nothing wrong with the alternator/battery to begin with. Normally, the alternator (ecm controlling it) will put out 14.7 volts, and with bad RF noise to the ECM, have seen the same alternator put out only 12.3 volts instead.
So if a company is toting that their spark plug wires are better since they have a lower resistance, that does not hold water for the C6 corvettes since they can cause some major RF noise back at the coils/ then entire system.
I really like the Summit Racing LS spark plug wires. They extent the large rubber boot part that goes onto the spark plug. Allows getting a better grip to pull off the boot. As good of quality as OEM.
OEM is always a great way to go when you have stock manifolds. They work great either way but the heat is what kills them. I just switched over to 2" headers and bought my first set of FIRECORE50 wires with the Promod boots..... LOVE THEM!!!! I will replace all my wires with them. They have bendable boots and have been pretty easy to get on and off and I cannot ever foresee them ripping or falling apart. I will post some pics up here in a minute to show them to you. FYI, I have already ordered another set for the Camaro and will be replacing them in the TBSS as well. :P
Just a FYI, but the heat off the header tubes is going to do your spark plug wires in, in a very short time.
Would suggest that you get heat shield on the wire boots.

These heat protectors only work if you have DIY wires. As they have a metal ring stitched on the ends and you can’t get it over the boot. They don’t work on oem wires
