Default 2012 C6 GS purchase???

Hello C6ers. I am a previous owner of a C5, C6 and a C7. The plan was to purchase a C8. However, with the strike and now the shutdown I have put that idea on hold. I do not have to have the latest and greatest and would like to see how things play out with the C8 over the next couple years. That being said, I am looking at a 2012 C6 GS, Carlisle Blue, 11K miles,Auto, Mag ride, exhaust upgrade. I had a 2008 convertible that I had no issues with. Is there anything I should be looking at, or any issues I should be aware of?
Thanks in advance!!!

Nothing different to look at than any other 11k mile car.

Why don't we have a "How to buy a C6" sticky?

They 12/13 got the seat upgrade and the padded arm rests and console lid and newer steering wheel. That blue is a one year color as well...I have a base and I love it. I bought mine in January 2019 with 1850 miles... I had a wheels sensor go bad and replace a hub assembly because of that and replaced the battery because I wanted the correct battery and I juts added tires because though the originals had plenty of tread they were 9 years old.. As it was I put almost 14k miles on them.. I just added new Pilot A/S +3's and love them....(and new tpms even though the others were working still...

Just do the normal checks...These are great cars and I like them more than the c7 and I put more than 30k on my 15....

Good luck!

C6 GS sounds like a great choice. I agree about waiting on the C8.

Issues with a C6: Check the Harmonic Balancer for wobble, possible oil pan saturation of oil that could leak, the A6 shift cable plastic clips could crack and strand you - so they should be changed, Check out the tires, battery (and key FOB battery), fuel smell around the rear LHS especially with a full tank, rear axle nuts may loosen, driver side seat leather wear, creaky top on coupe, and that's about it. IMHO pretty solid car.

My '08 (bought new) has 34,500 miles and is indeed a great car. I did have one mag shock leak ($500) and I have a pinhole in my a/c condenser ($300), and that's it. None of the other issues I mentioned above,

Only other major problem with a C6 - excessive grinning will make you look foolish, and possibly too much power , but then you already know this since you've owned one.

Ride the best - get a C6,
M...

I bought a 2012 GS with 13K on it last year. I'm approaching 20k now - no issues. The NPP was stuck open when I bought it - that is now fixed. The hatch button in back didn't work when I got it and I haven't bothered to fix it. I had it 2 months before I even realized it had a button and I was already in the habit of using the fob or the dash button. Just check the normal things - harmonic balancer, etc. I don't have mag ride, so can't help much with that. I made sure the tires were not as old as the car and I put a brand new battery in it.

Sorry to go a bit off topic but I also thought my hatch button wasn't working when I bought my GS last year. I didn't know the fob had to be in my pocket (or hand) for the button to release the hatch - for some reason it has to be really, really close even with fresh batteries. Took me a while to figure that out since my fob is pretty well always in the center console. Maybe something to try if you haven't already.

My 12' Inferno Orange A6 Grand Sport.

My #1 Dislike is the small black rear spoiler. I replaced with the GM Racing
(aka Ron Fellows Spoiler)
I also replaced small front splitter with ZR1 and added ZR1 skirts
Added body color door handles.......

Appreciate the tip. I can't say that I was aware that the fob had to be that close, but I just went out with the fob in my hand and used the same hand to push the button and nothing happened. It really never occurs to me anymore that there is even a button there so no biggie.

I bought my 2012 Carlisle Blue GS in 2015. I could had bought a 2014 C7 for less money. I passed because it was a C7, and it wasn't a wide body.

Check it out, do some research to see what kind of shape it's in. If everything is a go, go for it.

I've got a 13 GS that I bought new and like others have had no problems. The 12's and 13's have the last improvements of the C6 line. I just had my mag ride programming upgraded by Jim Mero . . . he is the guy who developed the mag ride programs for the C6 and C7 for GM, and now has a business upgrading C6s to the C7 specs for about $350. If you get the GS and can get his upgrade its well worth it. Look him up.

I have kept my wonderful C6 GS because I never warmed up to the styling of the C7, and I will never get a C8 because the midengine design is just too impractical for what I travel with. In fact , I'm pretty sure my C6 GS will be my last Corvette. I find it interesting you are looking to go back to a C6 rather than another C7, given all the improvements GM made in the C7 generation. But I say absolutely get that beautiful C6 GS . . . . in my eyes the best looking Corvette of all the C5, C6 and C7 models. Good luck.

Thanks guys for the comments. I have looked at the C7’s, and enjoyed mine while I had it. However, the C6 design, to me, is just so fluid and beautiful. The C7, though also nice, I never warmed up to the edgy design.

Thats really a nice car if the price is good even better. The mag ride is a fantastic option. The thing also is not having to have $85000.00 plus deprecate.

I have had 5 Vettes over the years, but my current crystal red, grand sport, vert. is the best of the lot. Although styling is subjective, the great thing is that we have a wide variety of styles, color and shapes. If the car meets the criteria that you wish, then by all means enjoy it, and welcome to the C6 forum in advance!! Bronk

I would suggest to have it inspected by an independent shop before purchasing. Good luck with your decision.
