Default Keyless entry getting weak

Hey all. I've replaced my battery several times, but it seems like my keyless entry just isn't strong anyway, Even just being in my pocket my door won't unlock. I have to pull it out and practically hold it by the quarter panel. Has anybody else had this issue where it just seems like the signal is weak now? I'm happy to replace it if that would give me better signal but it's kinda hard to cough up $100 if it's not going to make a difference. Any experience you all have would be great info to consider. Thanks!

Thread clarification: Pressing the buttons on the fobs work fine, every time. The problem I'm having is the proximity sensing when I'm trying to get into the doors or trunk.

Where are you getting your batteries from? When I need some I get them from a place that has a high turnover with sales of batteries...so they would be fresher.
Other than that...perhaps your FOBs are going bad. Do you have your vette on a battery tender when not in use?

Fun fact: FOB = Finger Operated Button
You're welcome...

I used a multi meter to check the batteries and they are good. Car sits on a tender when not used. Again, leaning towards replacing the FOBs but don't want to spend the money on a bad hunch.

Installed brand new door pads and it didn't make a difference.

Good point about the strength of some new fob batteries. Wally World usually sells enough of the fob batteries that they're usually at full strength.

And it is a fob, not a FOB, since the letters f, o, and b are not abbreviations for something. FOB stands for Free On Board.

A couple of questions, here: Where did you purchase the battery? Ok, only one question: did you purchase your battery online or at a Walmart or other place that cycles them all the time?

Fobs never get weak, or lose the programming.

Batteries are a whole different kettle of fish: I have become convinced that the vast majority of online batteries aren't strong enough for the fobs on both the C6 and C7 cars.

I have literally taken batteries that weren't strong enough for the car fobs and put them in other devices where they have performed for years.

Fobs do degrade, and contacts get wonky (dirty, broken...), but it is rare. I wouldn't call it "weak" and if works proximately, chances are it is a battery issue.

Batteries is the best lead.

FWIW...Is the FOB system weak everywhere?
Did you acquire any new cell phones, radio, hearing aid or pace maker LOL etc.
Always parking next to an Audi or Subaru - active radars and alarms?
Always near a cell tower or broadcast station?
What changed when you first noticed your FOB issues?
In other words - perhaps pesky frequency "jammers".

Good luck let us know your findings.

I clarified the OP. Pressing the buttons seems to work flawlessly. The main issue is the proximity sensing when trying to get into the doors or trunk. It's been this way for a long time and I just never really got bothered enough to post about it. But, the time has come that's it become annoying. Response to fob proximity seems consistent regardless of where I'm at, phone vs no phone, etc.

Note that there are other external sources of strong electronic signals that will do this. Parking lot lights are an example, as well as lighted business signs, etc..

Weak batteries in the FOB is your likely culprit. This weekend I took out a six-month old battery that wasn't being recognized and it read 3.0volts. The new battery showed 3.3volts and was read fine. Since the FOB is always on, it's going to constantly drain down just sitting in the drawer. Save the wave!

No, that's incorrect. If your fob is doing that, it's got a problem internally with something making a connection that it shouldn't be making.

It should only wear the battery down like batteries normally do without a connection.

BUT THE FOB IS NOT ALWAYS ON until you press a button.

But, it does spend a minuscule amount of energy "listening." It does no 'pinging" on its own unless it's broken.

Isn’t a fob something on the end of a key chain or a pocket watch. Long before electric doors.

Technically, it's the chain by which a watch is attached to an article of clothing, but has evolved to include the article attached to the chain.

It's actually called the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) Transmitter. but that is clunky, so "fob" is easier, but still not "FOB."
