Default Lower shock bolt

I'm replacing the shocks on my '05 C6 Z51. The service manual says that the lower rear shock bolt should be replace, and seeing that the torque on it is either 162 ftlb (the original torque spec) or 107 ftlb (revised torque spec), I tend to agree. Especially as these are the original shocks and they are at 75,000 miles.
I called my local Chevy dealer's parts department and inquired about the bolt and was told it had been discontinued. Nothing said about a superceded part number, only a suggestion that I try Autozone or O'Reilly's. They didn't even spend enough time for me to ask what is being used when they replace shocks in-house (and the manual says to replace the bolt)? Its this attitude that keeps me from going to this dealership to have the TSB for the steering lock performed.
The p/n is 14048990. I've found a NOS bolt online, but surely there is a current part number for this critical bolt that I could obtain locally?

No need to replace unless you are tracking the car heavy or building a race car.

If the earlier spec was 162 lb-ft., perhaps they recommended replacement because the threads were yielding at that torque. My 2006 factory service manual doesn't mention anything about not reusing the bolt, but then it specifies 107 lb-ft.

I've replaced shocks twice and never replaced the bolts. I'm at 143K miles now.

If 14048990 is officially discontinued, I would not expect to find a superseded part number for what is a pretty generic fastener. GM is willing to discontinue much more critical parts. Our steering racks and brake boosters, for example, haven't been available new for years.

The bolt itself is an M16 x 2.0, 100mm length, Class 9.8. According to Google there are several fastener supply stores in Amarillo. Give one of them a call.

I'd probably try Grainger and Fastenal last, because they usually have terrible prices, and Fastenal never has anything I'm looking for anyway.

Fastenal can usually get any fastener you need in a few days and I have always found them quite reasonably priced

My problem is that they're a walk-in fastener specialty store that stocks only commonplace fasteners. If I'm willing to wait days I can get any fastener I need from anybody.

I replaced my shocks several years ago and used the original bolts on the replacement shocks. No problems since and I torqued them to the "feels right" spec.

I'm on my 6th set of shocks with stock bolts. 229,000 miles. Don't worry about it.

From what I’ve read, the early ‘05 C6’s had bolts being snapped when torqued to 162, so GM backed the spec down. I appreciate the bolt specs, torquetube. I’m familiar with our local fastener suppliers from racing projects.

A buddy of mine went through the same problem very recently. According to him, he found the right bolts from Brian Tooley website.

Racer13735-that was for the axel nut not the shock bolt. The factory service manual calls for 107 lb/ft on the nut of the lower shock mounting bolt .No where in the factory C6 service manual does it call for the higher torque value that several have posted.Page 3-73 of your factory service manual.GM never changed the torque spec
