Help! I tried installing the column lock bypass, from corvette mods, for my 2005 C6, manual transmission
I followed the directions, but now I cannot seem to clear the steering column lock error message. Car won't start. I even uninstalled and plugged the stock wire back in to no avail. I unhooked the battery cable overnight, didn't help I unplugged the BCM for an hour, didn't help I don't know what to try next
A lot of the column lock bypass module's are no good even when new.Better to have the permanent fix that is now available from GM done and never worry about it again.
Agree with irok. Plus you have to deal with Corvette Mods which is probably the WORST vendor you could deal with. Good luck. May have to get it towed. Someone else will chime in with some help.
May have to be flat bedded to a trusted dealer for the permanent fix to this PITA nonsense.
$400 IIRC.
Dealer will probably be forced to look-up fix, understand software. Never heard of issue. Hopefully fast learners.
Oh, dealing w/ CMs is an unnecessary risk which sooner or later bites the hand?
I had same problem last spring. Mine would not start no matter what I tried. I disconnected neg battery and removed old CLB installed a new one and then my 05 Corvette would start. Called dealer and took it in never turning off engine. I had them install software only for CL fix. All has been ok since. Search my old posts for more details. I wrote a post of all that I did.
Below is from an old post of mine what I did to fix issue. GL!

I just went through this with my 2005. It got to the point it wouldn't start at all even with negative battery cable removed for a few mins and reconnected. I had to take gauge cluster out and disconnect CLM from bypass, reconnect and then it started. After I got it started I took it to GM dealer to flash BCM for the utility file update for SCL. All good now and its been 2 weeks. Cost was $128
Bypass was good because steering column never made any sounds for lock motor. My guess is CLM failed.

For what it’s worth, I had the same exact issue on my 05 and another forum member helped point me in the right direction. I just combed through my old posts and found the fix (for me at least.)
“I had a persistent Steering Column Lock issue with my 05 and what fixed it was replacing the steering column lock module which is the black box that the steering lock bypass plugs into. Its a black box about the size of a cigarette pack that has a circuit board in it the controls the system. It is known for bad solder joints.
As far as your no start my 2 cents would be if its not displaying the message when you get a failure then the column lock is probably not the cause of THAT failure.”
