Default Used car secrets

I picked up my Carbon Z just over a month ago and have put a whopping 200 miles on it (70 of those driving it home from the dealer). In the process of doing some modifications I'm finding some items that I didn't initially see when I inspected & purchased the car. The first is that there is evidence that the front fascia was repainted & that the OEM carbon fiber front splitter was repaired. I contacted the dealer who put me in touch with the previous owner because they were friends. He claimed he didn't know if the front was repainted but that the splitter was replaced after a valet hit it on a curb. Well, it definitely wasn't replaced because there are patches on the underside and you can tell it's been repainted.

Yesterday I pulled out the interior to install sound deadening and run wires for front & rear cameras along with installing a new head unit, amp & sub. Noticed when I removed the interior plastic pieces that many of them had obviously been removed before because all the clips were broken & super glued back on. The speakers & head unit are OEM, so I'm curious as to why the panels had been removed

Carfax also lists the vehicle as a 2-owner yet I found an insurance card under the passenger seat from 2016 that is not the previous owner I spoke to who supposedly owned the car since 2014. Also noted that the mileage recorded in February 2019 was the exact same mileage on the odometer when I purchased the car in March so the car sat for an entire year. It also appears the only maintenance that was performed was an oil change right before I purchased it. The coolant tank is almost empty & the reservoir is pretty dirty, the clutch fluid reservoir was near empty with black fluid. It also had the original 10 year old tires. The car was built in May 2011 but didn't sell until June 2012.

I've already put new tires on, will be swapping in the upgraded clutch master cylinder (because the clutch stuck to the floor when I changed the fluid), will be flushing out the old coolant, cleaning out the reservoir & replacing with new. I still love the new car, and am extremely happy with what I paid to get it. I guess I'm just amazed that people with these cars don't take better care of them, and just a note, as we all know Carfax is not accurate and thoroughly inspect used cars even if they have extremely low mileage.

Maybe you should have done a better inspection. It will be fine.

I don’t know many people who pull off interior panels in their pre-purchase inspection.

As I said

I wasn’t talking about the interior pieces. It will be fine so you can keep bragging.

If you ever purchase an aircraft, you will pull every single interior and exterior panel during a pre-inspection.

I put my phone up under the Corvette I bought and took a video, especially of the splitter. I wouldn't had pulled the interior panels though. I'll bet he upgraded the radio from a newer model or replaced a unit that broke.

I was just told this is covered for 10 years or 100k miles on a 2011 Corvette.

14717 is the recall for the clutch ------ Google for more info

Sorry to hear this, but it happens. I'm glad that it hasn't changed your perspective on the car. It's beautiful, maybe more so because of the imperfections.

Didn't seem like he was bragging. Just a conversation. Glad he is happy with the car.

You found out why the price was so attractive it would seem. It's easy to look mint, much harder to be mint.

Since I am not a busy body I don't follow these threads to judge people. If you love your car brag about it. Just lighten up dude. Its not a big deal.

HI, it sounds like today is your first day on the internet. Welcome. People here like to talk up the things they own if they like them, or talk down the things they don't own or don't like. Anyways, enjoy your time on the internet, but one word of caution. Pretty much everything you search will come back as a type of ****.

Jabcat's previous Corvette was the nicest car on this forum and I don't even like orange. Never noticed any bragging from where I sit.

Hey I would worry too much you know the car is fine....The insurance card should have the time frame it was active?? Splitters are going to be scrapped on these cars no way around that if they are driven...I've seen low mileage c7s that are horrible... Everything else could happen normally. You have a nice rare beautiful car..I bought a very low mileage car in January in 2019 and I obsessed with the thing before and after I bought it looking for **** to find wrong...At some point let it go and enjoy the car. Find some replacement panels on the inside and move on and put some miles on it...My 2012 had 1850 miles when I bought it...It has 15600 miles on it now. I do a few things to it as I go like changing fluids and new tires and such...Mine has a minor scrape or two under the nose (very minor) I will fix those but for an 8 year old car is a 9.8 out of 10 as a good weather driver.. Make it fun for you, not the next guy. You have a fabulous car for half the money....ENJOY!

JABCAT, just enjoy your car,& put a new splitter on it if that keeps you up at night, the other flaws seem to be maintenance only items

It is covered but the 2 dealers near me don’t have very good reputations & the part was only $87 so I’ll swap it myself.

The point of my conversation was simply there could be things you find out about a used vehicle even after giving it what you thought was a good pre-purchase inspection.

I didn’t notice the front end repaint & repaired splitter until I was under the car adjusting the lowering bolts. That would’ve been a good thing to notice considering the factory splitter is $1,200, but again not a big deal as it looks fine from up top.

The maintenance items also not a big deal & I admit I didn’t check all fluids when I inspected the car.

2008 Corvette apparently just likes to in people’s threads without adding anything useful, so there’s that.

The car is great, as with my previous GS and all the cars before it (oh might be bragging) I modify them to my particular tastes. I mistakenly thought this was a forum to talk about our Corvettes
