Convertible Problem
When I attempt to put the roof up, again it goes up 90% to the last step and stops just short of the position where you can grab the handle and close it. If you try to pull it closed, it doesn’t budge.
The last time this happened I brought it to the dealership and while I service advisors were looking at it (for a while) it finally completed the last step and I was able to close it??
It appears that the mechanics are working up and until the final step, like a computer malfunction.
Has anyone experienced this?
They stretch over time causing this.
A member did quite the DIY thread for repairing this.
Kind of a PITA though, tight working space, trying to install screws in new strap to hole frustrating.
Some members simply push it down, give it some help.
All from memory, don't drive a roadster although one I did have had manual top.
Never liked a power top for this & variety of other crap reported over the MY run w/ power tops.
'Stevesacre' or something close was OP of DIY, try search.
Excellent thread, just what you're looking for.

Bet this is his video, remembered he pointed out top of strap riveted.
IIRC he added some info to his DIY several days later, something unforeseen.
He was concerned hole he made might rip, ends were reinforced.
I suggested he double-up strap's ends for added strength, hopefully eliminating any further ripping.
He said space was so tight doubling wouldn't allow enough room to replace screw.
When I attempt to lower the top and it stops just before the tonneou cover is closed or when i attempt to raise the top and it stops just before it gets to the point where I can close it, if I thurn the car off and leave it in that position
for a hour or so, when I return the tonneou cove has closed and if I was raising the top I find the top advanced and ready to be closed.
Puzzling !
finally give out. lots of threads on replacing motor. (pretty simple)
good luck
