Default One rusty rotors?

I noticed after installing new pads all the way around that my drivers side rear rotor has a rust ring. After I wash the car I always dry the rotors off and take it for a spin to remove any rust. However this rust ring is still there. Any thoughts why I have this rust ring? I've attached a photograph.

I've also considered installing new rotors as I am tired of the rust after I wash the car each time.

new rotors?

That's how mine looked when I was given base model rotors when I needed J55 rotors.

Pads aren’t touching rotors where there is rust. Go and make some hard, high speed stops to clean off the pads and rotors

I live where it is very humid. If I go a day without driving I start getting rust. I've never ended any drive when they were rusty, even without heavy braking, and they are still rusty.

If you brake hard and they are still rusty you have a bigger problem.

Something is off on that particular pad. Clearly not scrubbing the rotor completely.

Looking at your picture, it would appear that you got the wrong pads for the rear. Either the box had the wrong ones in it or the store sold you the wrong ones.
The pad in the picture does not look like it is correct for the car.

Thanks everyone for the responses. The funny thing is the pads on the other side are working correctly. Their is no rust on that side and I have no noticeable abnormal braking. I bought these from Autozone so I will have to check the part numbers. I have a LT3 car with the heavy duty brakes.

Considering the depth of the none worn edge ring protruding, would dare to say that the rotors really need to be turned to square the front and back surfaces to each other to start with.

Or, the problem on the c5 Z06 calibers when used for racing (they are the same as the Base and Z51 on the C6) is that the U shape of the calipers can bend open over time, to cause the same problem as well. Another problem is the guide pin (6) can bend, or even wear out the channel in the bracket if they are not greased correctly(10), which does not produce even pressure of the pad to rotors too.

As for rusting on the pad surface of the rotor, is normal due to the metal used for the rotors. Hence you can paint/coat all the none contact surfaces that they will be fine, but since the pads need to bear on raw metal, that surface will rust after any water is applied to the surfaces. Does it matter, not really, since if the pads are mating to the rotor surfaces, the next time you take the car out and use the brakes, the rust is removed by the pads.

So the solution to the problem, and since we are talking about brake dust that is going to collect, is to paint the rotors flat black, so they become a dark background for the shinny rims up front, and not a flash part of the background that is drawing your eye into the background barrel part of the rims instead.

Lets see a picture of the other side. Like I said it looks like the wrong pad is installed on the side you are seeing the rust on.

I use these brakes on the race track and with heavy use and heat, the calipers spread. The spread isn't even so the open end of the caliper is wider than the closed end. The pads will wear unevenly to match the caliper and maintain full contact with the rotor. When new pads are installed the top of the pad (at the closed end of caliper) will make contact with the rotor before the part of the pad at the open end of the caliper resulting in what you are seeing. If you keep driving, the pad will eventually wear to the same angle as caliper spread and make full contact with rotor. If you don't want to wait you can install new calipers. You have the correct pads.
