Hello all !
I'm going to buy a C6 Corvette 2005 man 112000 miles and need help with a sign on engine block behind the oil filter. Sign: Remanufactured for GENERAL MOTORS Part No: 89C1819 Date: 10-2009 Serial No: 40014058
What does the sign stand for ? Is it reasonable to believe that it is a newer engine assembled 10-2009 ? Can it be a Gen. IV engine ?
Thanks !

Welcome Tomas! It looks to me like the car has a replacement, remanufactured (rebuilt) engine handled for GM by an authorized contractor. I would ask the current owner why the original engine was replaced and if any other major end items were replaced. Has the vehicle been wrecked? Again welcome to the forum!
You were wise to check, Tomas. It looks like the engine change is not listed as being related to the accident. I would just be curious why it was swapped out. Are you able to ask the previous owner? You can also check with the service department at a Chevrolet dealer and ask them to pull up all service and recall records. If nothing unusual results then I would take the car to a trusted Corvette mechanic for inspection. You might have them look to see if any other major items have been replaced. You never know, the car might have been raced and had the pants driven off it or perhaps the original engine just failed. But in any case, I would be very careful. Good luck!
Thanks Fine05 !
I have looked in Car Fax where there is nothing about changed engine ?
Regards
Tomas
You've found the many limitations of Carfax.
Truth be told, for a car like this water ingestion is the most common cause of engine replacement. Not to say it couldn't have had some other special cause random failure, but in a low sports car like a better, water ingestion is a lot more common than you'd think.
One of my work vans was hit hard in the front by a red light runner. Vehicle was repaired and when driving out the motor seized by oil pump actually knocked loose during collision.

All 05 Corvettes came from the factory with Gen IV engines.Contact the dealer mentioned in the carfax as they may have info on the replacement engine.

I have the VIS REPORT for you, and the list of work carried out on this car is a mile long. The engine was replace at 62+K miles on October 26, 2009.
This vehicle had a lot of issues right from the get go. The only recall that is still open is the low beam headlights. That was not done according to the report.
The last work done on this car at a GM dealer was in 2011. At that time, at 80K miles, the (SWPS) Steering Wheel Position Sensor clip was installed to prevent the connector from fretting.
PM me your e-mail, and I'll send you the complete report.
