Then, of course, we have the $95 per hour plumber !
Not a hell of a lot of expensive special tools, or electric bill, or massive rent bill associated with the local plumber .... also no union dues here in a 'Right to Work' state like Florida ... oh well
If the plumber can get $95 per hour ... more power to him ... Sure beats working at Walmart or Taco Bell for 10 or 11 bucks an hour.

I’m assuming you’re joking about the “not a lot of expensive special tools” thing.
I have had plumbers at my house before, and about all I saw them bring is a pipe wrench, some screw drivers, an adjustable wrench, a hammer and a couple of other hand tools.
Sure, if your drain is plugged up .. they have to bring that equipment with an electric motor than they run down the drain pipe to clear it ... Certainly not the amount of tools a profesional auto mechanic needs to buy. In fact, I would say that the average large roll-away tool box a pro auto mechanic has costs the price of all the tools a plumber buys.
Just my opinion ... maybe I'm wrong

Just a little FYI. Plumbing and HVAC businesses have expensive tools that are a single purpose tool. What you see is a single purpose job. We run the gamut of work from A to Z.
Hey thrre_
Thank you for the input. As much as I trust BB, it would probably be best to get just one more quote - if only for —— & giggles.
Appeciatevthe quick replies.
Boomer - I see you list Florida as a location. Are you a snow bird? Here now? South/Central by any chance? I’m asking because I recently had a Kenwood receiver plus two cameras and a new Sirius tuner installed. Ran me about $1,100. Shop is in Jensen Beach. Did a great job - no issues and very pleased with the work.
J-man - in Michigan til Fall and typically hit central FL about Oct.
Thanks for heads up
I met a man years ago on the golf course who lived in Michigan during the summers and then stayed at hotels in Florida for the entire winter. He said they did the math and once you consider the discounts for staying at extended stay hotels and the free breakfast / room cleanup / etc. it made more sense not to purchase a place.
I am a long way away from retirement, but that doesn't sound like a bad way to do things. My inlaws are in Florida (they were in Central FL, Orlando) but moved further south to Cape Coral last year. They love it there. Until last year they kept a place here in Illinois, but since they spent less and less time there they now just come up and stay with family.
What field were you in at $80/hr 10 years ago? Dealership? My plumbing company just charges $95/hr today and we roll up in $100k setup.
I wish I could find a plumber at that rate. I just got a quote for $800 to replace a shut off valve... Needless to say I am just going to do it myself.
Also Crutchfield does also do installation, they have a shop about an hour away from me.
When I replace my deck in my C6Z it will most likely be a Alpine as I feel they sound better than all the rest. I haven't had a kenwood in probably 20 years so they could sound better since then. That being said there are a lot of small parts, clips and just plain old pride in work preformed. I wouldn't take my Vette to a big box pDolace that will wham bam thank you mam your car.I would find a reputable shop that has experience taking your car apart the right way, and if something does break they will replace it and not mickey mouse it back together! If your budget permits do the whole system at the same time as going back in later costs more money and more chances of breaking stuff. Do it right and do it one time. That's money in the bank. Buy good quality too as it will also save you in the long run. For me it's Alpine head unit, Alpine Amps, Focal speakers, and Alpine subs or JL. I have this set up in my Hot Rod and it will damn near blow your head off and is clear when cranked up. I listen to a gamete of music Rock, metal, rap, country depending on my mood. Nothing beats a quality system. You don't have to buy the best just buy quality! Just my .02
I went to best buy to get a kenwood installed.
it has 2 ports for cameras, but they told me i couldn't put a front camera on it?
id like one so I dont tear my splitter up...
This seems to be the best Bang for your buck unit.
Especially when its on sale.
You can definitely put a front camera on the car. There's just not a lot of great places to mount it. Places that are study, don't go into any visible or body panels to mount, and create an excellent, protected wire path aren't super common on these cars and typically require some sort of compromise.
That price is about right. I do local installs out my garage and charge $65 an hour for any work as long as its not custom prefab work. The vette is easy to a point if your are keeping the existing bose amp and wiring.
I use crutchfield all the time as if i have an issue I can call them. Buy a part from bestbuy and you get no help except a dimwitted CS rep.

i'm going to remember this, I live in Lombard so not far from you. I did the work myself on my c6 but next time I would much rather have somebody else do it (or an extra set of hands that knows what they are doing)
if you're willing, send me some contact info along with what type of work you do in your garage (audio, or otherwise)
