I read somewhere that you could still have power to the car after you disconnect the battery? Maybe I was dreaming! Anyone know how this could be done?
I just put my charger on it by connecting it on the cig. lighter socket.
Hook your charger up BEFORE disconnecting the battery and leave it on until the new battery? is reconnected.
Others will tell you how they do it in different ways, but it's done easily. Good luck.
Obtain a OBDII memory saver for around $20 on Amazon. Connect it to a 12v power source (like a jump starter or other 12v source) and plug if into the OBDII post before disconnecting the battery. Once done, disconnect and replace the battery. Once that's done, disconnect the memory saver. All your learned information is saved along with any of your memory configuration for radio, homelink, etc. Even your windows will remain indexed properly.
Another way to do it is If you have a battery tender, connect the positive to the stud shown here that you can see when you open the under hood fuse box cover, and the negative to a good ground, then plug it in, remove and reinstall the battery, this will retain your memories like the other methods mentioned above. Whichever method you choose, just make sure the positive battery cable doesn't come it contact with a ground when changing out the battery.

madsonp, (or anyone else)
Can that terminal be used to jump start the car? Or be used to charge the battery?
There are multiple threads on this but it is easy to do. Mine is a convertible so windows must be indexed. Close the door and run the windows down then all the way up, hold the switch in up for 3 seconds and you are done. Tim
I just changed my battery without any issues except I had to index my windows.
Yes. The C6 doesn't lose any memory settings when the battery is disconnected except the window indexing and it won't even lose that if the windows are up when you do it.

You were dreaming. Disconnect the battery, install a new battery, index the windows, and done - simple.

This can be done by hooking up a battery charger before disconnecting the battery but why bother? It just increases the odds of shorting out the cables while disconnected. The C6 only loses window indexing which takes less than 10 seconds to redo.

Well actually, in addition to the windows, it also resets the computer, so the car has to relearn it's settings, and you also loose the presets on the radio. The computer will relearn it's settings after driving about 20 miles, the windows need to be reindexed, and the radio presets need to be reset. So it's not really a big deal to loose these, the computer will take care of itself, so the only thing you have to physically do is the radio and windows.
