Default C6 Rear Main Time

So it looks like the rear main is leaking I noticed after sitting for about 45 mins and moving puddle. I have been quoted $6-800. What have you guys paid for it to be done? Is there a revised gasket or aftermarket one that is stout?

I recently had the rear main cover replaced. Since everything had to come off the back of the engine from the diff forward I changed out the clutch assembly at the same time. It sounds like a reasonable amount for labor. The part was $83.00, its called the, "Rear Block Cover with seal bolts and gasket". Mine leaked for a short time at a low rate then really let go one day. It is an 11 hour job by the book.

I'd be a little leery of an estimate that low.

The job is basically the same labor as a clutch job because all of the same parts have to be removed in addition to the rear cover to replace the rear main seal. I do all my own work but from what I can remember the labor for just a clutch job is at least $1500.

Ditto on cost seems a bit low, since the entire drive line from the back of the motor and clutch, has to be taken out of the car to get to the back crank shaft to replace the seal.
So around $1k is labor alone is about right, then you have the cost of fluids/parts, and even rear end re-alignment when the drive line with cradle is put back in, so should be looking at around $1800 in the end.

If someone is quoting you $800 to replace the rear seal, then bank that they are going to find another problem (bait and switch) while they are in there, to get the price of the repair up over the $2k mark for the same amount of work. And yes, clutch and flywheel has to come out, so replace the entire clutch system parts since it will not cost you any more in labor, since they just install the new clutch system when they are putting everything back together.

It makes sense now what has to be done. That is a lot of work time to get to work. I appreciate the data. Have a great day.cheers
