Having trouble looking for an Ls2 engine as my 2005 vette with only 45000 miles may need a new one. Doesn't seem like many places offer a replacement for this, so on the chance this may not be available, what kinds of LS swaps are reasonable for this year? I keep hearing that an Ls3 is possible but I'm trying to do the least amount of adjustments to accommodate this disaster.
Looks like I have wobble with the harmonic balancer, not separation, Also getting an engine power reduced message as of yesterday.
Have you scanned for any codes?
You might want to make sure that the problem is not just a bad harmonic balancer .... replacing a harmonic balancer is A LOT cheaper than replacing an engine.

That's what I'm hoping it is, I'm having a local shop take a look at it tomorrow as I'm not comfortable making that determination yet. The purpose of this thread was to have options ready. I appreciate you guys replying

If your engine does end up being shot, rebuilding it would be my first choice.
Otherwise, any LS2, LS3 or LS7 from 2006-2013 would also fit but you'd have to change the reluctor wheel on the crank to a 24x. The 2005 was a bit of an oddball motor as they switched to a 58x starting in 2006.

what fails on LS motors? I mean when people say "get a rebuild" what are they tyipcally replacing? I am not talking about increased power situations. I am speaking about wear and tear weather it's hard driving, deferred maintenance or worn out from usage...
