I searched this forum and did not find an answer to my problem. I have an 08 Indianapolis 500 commemorative model with 11K miles. When I pulled into my garage today, I noticed a rapid flashing on the front wall from my lower lights. My wife said the outer rear taillights were flashing rapidly as well. I have tried many combination of lights on/off, turn signals, flashers, etc. I noticed when I walked away the horn beeped 3 times. I need some help. I found mention of hyper flashing on the forum, but don't know what that might be. I am hoping I can get some help on the forum. At least something I can try. I cannot go too deep into repairs as I am an old dude. I may need a trip to the dealer this week.
The horn honking 3 times when you exit the vehicle is the car telling you it thinks you've left the fob inside the car and you have Auto-Lock turned on. It won't lock automatically in this case and the car will beep at you the next time you enter. If you have the fob in your right pocket, try moving it to your left one and/or step toward the rear of the car instead of the front when you first exit and close the door.
When you refer to your "lower lights" do you mean the fog lights that are down below the grille?
Are all the lights OEM/stock? This odd combination of flashing lights is puzzling.
Hyperflash is what happens when you replace 'normal' turn signal bulbs with LED's. The LED's don't present much of a load to the computer (unlike the 35 watt OEM incandescent bulbs) and the computer thinks you have a burned out turn signal bulb. The hyperflash is the way the car alerts you of the burned out bulb.
The brake lights and turn signals use the same brighter filament in the OEM dual-filament bulb, so hyperflash can mean a brake light is not working as well as the turn signal.
If you have LED turn signal bulbs you need to add a load resistor to each one, to fool the computer into thinking a 'normal' bulb is connected. The C6 does not use a flasher to control the turn signals, the computer does it directly.
Thank you for your help. The three honks are okay, I have had that happen before and it did not occur again later.
However, the hyper flash is confusing. All the bulbs are factory. I checked the turn signals front and rear. However, I did not check the brake lights. I will do that next as well as just the tail lights. Hopefully that will be my problem. I will do that later today after the battery charges. The lights flashing weakened my battery in spite of the trickle charger I had hooked up.
The flashing is in the front lights at the bottom of the front facia, in the housing I would assume is for the fog lights. The rear flashing is the outermost tail light.
I tried the brake lights and all turn signals with the brakes on. I tried just manually turning on the headlights and the rear lights were all on. All side marker lights are on. I think I have tried all combinations so I would conclude that a bad bulb is not the culprit.
I am at wits end. The flashing is as if there was a parade mode or something. Unless someone else has a suggestion, I will be at the dealer this week and hope they have a Corvette guru.
I don't know if you want to tackle this or not but..............
The fog lights are controlled by micro-relay #38. You could swap this with micro-relay #36 (windshield washer) to see if a faulty relay is the culprit for your flashing fog lights.
The flashing of just the outer tail lights is really confusing.
I hate to say it but you may have a computer problem that will be expensive to fix/replace.
I would also recommend that you post on your Regional Forum and get some advice from your local Vette owners about a trusted shop that can handle this. GM dealers are a crap-shoot and since this is not a warranty issue, you may be better off with using a specialty shop instead.
I got a huge surprise at the Chevrolet dealer today. Their Corvette tech is very knowledgeable. He "fixed" my car in two seconds. According to him, a few of the 08 Pace Cars were equipped with "parade" lights and it is his understanding it was done on cars intended for promotional purposes by Chevrolet during the race weekend or later in the year for Chevrolet promotions. If that was the case for my car, that would certainly explain why it had so few miles when I bought it earlier this year and the dealer I bought it from had it for several years. I had another 08 Pace Car and it did not have the option. There is a hidden toggle switch located just above the inside hood release and I tripped the switch while opening the hood.
Many thanks to **** Jockey. He took the time to offer constructive suggestions to diagnose and solve my problem.
