Default Thoughts on Engine issues..

Hey guys, I have an 08c6z that I purchased in March. I’ve put just shy of 3k miles on it since then and had some sort of engine failure this past Sunday. I’m waiting for the shop to get an open bay to determine what it was since they are so backed up with LS builds. I think it was a valve spring but I’m no mechanic. The car was modified from the previous owner with AHP heads, 116 cam, kooks headers, X pipe and BB exhaust. I’ll try to attach the video I had my girlfriend took out the window as we drove in my subdivision. Ultimately, I’ll find out what failed when they take it apart but I’m continually guessing what it could be and how much this is gonna cost me. Any suggestions or thoughts would be great.

So what kind of engine failure did you experience? What are the symptoms ?

With the information you've provided....or lack thereof....my thought is... "It's broke!" How can you possibly expect any realistic suggestions or thoughts when you provide no information related to symptoms, noises, codes or whatever?

Sorry, I tried to post a video that would describe what it was doing but I guess it didn’t post. It was Misfiring and then started to make a loud ticking noise. Total newb to the forum and can’t get the video to post.

Update.. Turns out I broke a valve spring and dropped a valve. I got extremely lucky the valve didn’t completely trash the motor. A big thanks to my shop (CBI) to get her all fixed and running again.

Glad it wasn't a big deal and you're back on the road.
BTW, what kind of valve spring broke, stock or aftermarket? Your shop should be able to tell you.

Find out. If the previous owner just installed a new high lift camshaft and did not set up the rest of the valve train correctly, bad things will happen, like you just experienced. If your shop simply replaced one spring and did not check spring height vs valve lift vs coil bind, lifter preload, etc., you will continue to have problems.

The shop replaced the valve and put all new BTR dual valve springs on. They said another spring had already showed signs of breaking as well. I’ll be doing a trunion kit next spring. Would have done it now when they had the motor apart but they were on backorder.

Funny take there even if bass-ackwards.
