Stop button doesn’t kill motor
The only way to kill it totally was to hit the button repeatedly or the instant way was to open either door.
I ordered a new button.
Before it arrived, the car was perfect again.
I installed the new button since the original was cracked anyway.
Worked great for a few months but now it’s back to not stopping the engine.
Should I look at wiring down at starter?
Hence if BCM is killing the dash from the Start button stop command, but not the motor, then the problem is the ecm is not receiving the stop command from the BCM, or just ignoring it. Also, same set of can bus wires are sending the command from the BCM to the ECM to start the car, so may be a problem with the ECM alone.

So in his case, the run command is working in both since the car will start, but when he goes to turn the car off, ECM is not either getting or following the command isntead. Hence if car is still running, but ECM command line is reading stop, then ECM has a major problem. So best case, may just be a ECM/BCM corroded pins connector problem, and when the car is shut off and the BCM is doing it thing, enough of a power glitch that the ECM is just not getting the command from the BCM.
So on something like this, would first start by pulling the upper engine fuse box off the lower assembly, cleaning them up, then putting them back together. Next would be the BCM connectors to clean them and check it grounding point, then followed by the ECM connectors and grounding point as well. This weeds out the corroded pin problem and makes sure that the BCM is not low power glitching turning the car off, as well as good connection to the ECM for the same reason as well.
Aslo, does not hurt to watch the BCM and ECM voltages during both run and shut off switching, to see if you have the major power dip corroded pin/groudinng problems to start with.
