Default Car damaged

Not the way anyone wants to start November. A lady pulled out from the right at the stop sign, as I'm going straight down our street.
I hit the brakes and stopped. Thinking she will stop and let me continue ahead or go around me, but she never stops.

She continues to turn left in front of me and cuts it sharp towards me. I'm honking the horn now, as I can tell she'll hit me if she continues.
She passes right by my front end and clips my ride with her left side of her truck with the running boards on the truck.
Had I not stopped, she would have plowed into the right side door area, where Anne was sitting. SMH

Anne says the lady never looked at us, but saw her still looking back towards the corner. Apparently at the dog the lady later mentions.
She says she was looking at a man walking his dog and didn't see me until AFTER we crashed. It all happened very fast, no time for me to back up and there was a car behind me anyway.
A witness/neighbor saw it all and couldn't believe it. He heard my horn and turned to look and saw the crash. He was working in his driveway on the corner right beside us.

This all happend just 6 houses down from ours, as we're heading home. Lady says she's sorry and has insurance proof and lives 2 blocks away.
I had no stop sign and she did, along with pictures and the witness, so I'm good on that part. So no costs to me, except the troubles of getting it fixed.

Now it's the trouble of finding a place to get it properly fixed and paint matched around here in the Reno/Sparks area.
Do they still make these parts? Front piece and fender for a 2008? Is the dealership the best place for these parts?
What's the normal repairs on these parts? Repair or replace? Anyone?

Is there a formula for the depreciated value, because of the wreck, that we should get as re-imbursment?

What should I be asking for or expect on this? We both are with State Farm insurance. Thanks, for any information.

Feeling like crap about this, just glad no one was hurt and it wasn't worse.

Based on your photos, you can probably effect a 90% paint repair with polishing compound alone. A surprising amount of that scuffing will polish out, but I don't think it all will.

I have never been happy with attempts to repair polyurethane bumper covers. If it's creased or cracked, the best fix is replacement.

If the bumper cover is replaced and the fender can be reused, standard operating procedure would be to sand the clear coat from the entirety of both front fenders and the hood, paint the new bumper while color blending into the three adjacent panels, and then shoot clear on all four panels.

If the bumper cover can be reused, you can get away with painting just the bumper and the driver's fender.

Thanks. On the front piece there's a fracture and a piece broken off down at the bottom and hanging there. The SunTek paint protection is holding it on for now.
The fender and front is scrubbed and in the darkest area is bent inward at the seam point too.

Thanks, that's the plan. Just trying to get what information I can ahead of time. Things to ask and avoid.

It would be nice to save the fender to avoid color matching the driver's door.

I agree, if they can repair the scrubbed and pushed in portion. Have to see what the repair place says.

I just want it done right for us and the next owners, if/when we sell it later on. Thanks.

I just took this shot of the broken lower part on the front I mentioned. Sorry about the quality of it.

It's not the visual damage that gets you, it's the hidden stuff underneath. Presumably, the other party's insurance will pay for the repair, so I'd take it to a good body shop that repairs Corvettes and get an estimate. They'll know what to look for and what to replace and repair. Any competent shop should be able color match your paint, so I'd be trying to get broken parts replaced with new parts, or minimally, recycled undamaged parts. Just my .02

And it sucks that that happened to you. Who needs more stress in these times?

I would think that the area you live has some great classic car restoration shops that could recommend repair. Corvette clubs in the area would be another source of information for good reliable work. Corvette owners in this area don't necessarily use Corvette/Chevrolet dealerships. For example, there is a Honda dealership nearby that has a great body shop, and most all Vette repair goes to them ! Sorry for you situation, but it can be fixed as good as new, and thankfully no one was injured

I would expect it to be about $5-$7K to repair correctly at a decent shop. I'd also want replacement parts for those damaged with GM factory body panels and any bent supports that might not be visible from the photographed exterior damage. Did the police come and issue her a citation so it will show up on her driving record as an at fault accident?

Week ago Sunday other half was driving up the valley we live in and a deer torpedo''ed her in our 2017 F-450 pickup in the passenger side doors. Damage barely visible except the door to cab body lines are just not quite right. Doors are tweaked, missing piece of trim for the lower rear corner of the cab and a small dent in the trucks bed which will be pulled out. But both aluminum doors are goners and the truck will require repaint of the entire right side two tone paint scheme. Estimate:: $7,000.00 and change.

The pisser is there was no place within a half mile to stop and gather up bambi for some very expensive venison.
On the bright side, pays to have good insurance. No cost to us..

You should get a qualified diminished value appraiser in your area to look at the car before you have it repaired. When it goes in the shop it will show up on your Carfax and that’s going to hurt resale value.

Thanks guys. I have been getting feedback from local friends and Corvette owners locally too.

As to the police, no call or ticket. The insurance company will handle it.

As of now, it looks like I'm going to our local Concours shop. They are getting alot of good reports, but still looking things over.

We'll see what's really hurt when it's taken apart. Thanks for your replies.

Looks like she had more damage than you did. A good body shop will have you out on the road looking good as new

Update: Got the quote for $4,295.24 so far. Replacing the front bumper, headlight, fog light assy, lower deflector, side marker assy.
The right fender is alright, just repair deal. Then of course the paint and clear coats. Then replace the SunTek paint protection on the bumper, headlight and fog light.

I talked with the owner, as he has a white Z06 of his own. So a Corvette guy is in charge of it all and I feel a bit better now.
It goes into the shop on the 17th and should be about a week. Hope things go well.

If you are looking to get a diminished value check after the repair, you need to get a certified diminished value appraiser to look at the damage on the car. My appraiser looked at my car before it was repaired and took pictures so he could determine the diminished value on the car. I had a little less than $1,000 worth of repair work done on my car than what you were quoted, and my diminished value check was about the same as the check the insurance company issued me for repairs. Just a thought if you plan to try and collect diminished value because this will show up on Carfax and reduce your resale value.

I had the same hit happen to me about three years ago.I took it to a high end corvette shop and the bill was 5k to replace the bumper, fix the fender . replace the headlight(slight scratch on lens), inner fender liner, hash marks and blend paint into hood. It turned out perfect.

I'm trying to get that started now. Calling State Farm this morning with their quote and ask what they require/need for the diminished value claim.
If they do that or not. I was given a name by the shop owner to get a professional guy that does it long distance, if I need him.
Said it's cost was about 400.00 for him to handle it for me. We'll see if it's needed.

What insurance were you dealing with and who was your appraiser? Them or someone you hired? Thanks.

Anyone have any idea what the diminished value would be on a 25K valued ride? Approx.?
