(2006 automatic) shift lever issue
i am experiencing, on occasion, an issue with the shift lever and that would be the button on the shift lever does not engage right a way to allow me out of park. any suggestions?

There are lots of threads on this, you need to deal with this before you get stuck somewhere. Try to search "stuck in park" or something similar.

There are two issues with shifting out of park. One is the locking pawl that is moved out of and into lock position with solenoid and limit switches. The other is the button on the shifter which is a mechanical device to keep you from accidently moving lever that can cause harm to transmission. If not working properly either one of these devices can make shifting out of or into park very difficult. With my 08 the solenoid park pawl on occasion has been slow to act as it should, but the lever button seems to be the main issue with shifting out of park. If the lever acts like it wants to hang I show it who's boss. So far it has worked. I read somewhere that some lube will help with button issue. I need to try this before I tear into shifter. This is what I have found with my car.
