Default 2005 C6 Question

I have a friend with a 05 Coupe who claims his 05 does not have a key slot above the license plate. He broke his window to get in when his battery died. If you don’t have a 05, please do NOT respond to this post. His car is in storage so cannot confirm. PS. He is not the brightest bulb in the box. Thanks.

Hey 2008, not sure. Mine has it. 2005 Z51. Have used it before to open the trunk to get to the manual release.

I previously had 2 different 2005 C6s.

Here's some info. from page 2-15 of the 2005 owner's manual:

If your vehicle has lost battery power, open the
hatch/trunk using the vehicle key. The key lock cylinder
is located on the rear of the hatch/trunk lid above the
license plate. Turn the vehicle key clockwise in the lock.

I have a 2005 and have had to use it also, so it was there from the factory.

2005 with key slot above rear license plate. Haven’t had to use it yet but I do keep it lubed. Lot of dirt finds it’s way up there. Want to be sure it turns if I do need it.

I also have 05, and there is key slot, perhaps the prior owner did what I did, I used tape to cover the slot from dirt clogging cylinder.

Just tried mine, works. Knew about it but never tried/used it before. Definitely needs a little lube.

'05 Vert here. Over a quarter million miles, and every single mile of that my car had a key slot above the license plate.

Every MY C6 (every version) has that slot in the exact same place, so not sure what your friend thought was going on.

Now you've peaked my interest. I have to ask why you use it often. I've had mine since new 16 years ago and maybe used it twice.

Hey Sapulmr-- Every time the battery fails, drains, or dies, I have that key ready, don't usually carry it with me; just carry the fob to get in the car. Can't get inside a Vette with a dead battery and no key...or can you?? Lucky you, that you haven't locked your keys in the car or had a dead battery..... LOL

I'm wondering if a previous owner of the 05 removed the lock as a site for a rear view camera? Otherwise, like mine, the lock cylinder is there.
