I took my car into have the trash serviced. after test driving it, and putting it on the rack , he came in to
the waiting room and told me that y car has a 6L80 six speed auto trans. he said that it was not the standard
one for that car. he said that its possible that they that may have done a upgrade at that point in the year. maybe a change from manual to auto,
the result of this was going to require rear parts of frame due to longer length of tranny. (cant get to bolts) so, I
am now going th have the trans flushed as apposed to dropping pan and changing filter, fluid etc,
Now my question is, can someone tell me what the other trans code was? what ever it was it was shorter and the bolts could be reached by unbolting it from frame and jacking it up enough to get to last bolts.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
It’s not easy to find someone who will actually drop the pan to do a fluid change. You only can change half the fluid this way, but I am not a fan of “the flush”.
First thing you should do is open your glove box and check the Regular Production Orders (RPO) in your glove box frame left side. Take a photo of the codes and then goggle RPO for C6. If you have an auto, it should have "MYC", then RUN or run anyway!
Wow.
I too may say you need a new mechanic.
The 2005 for sure, and maybe the 2006, had an auto trans without shifter paddles.
Maybe best is what another co-member suggested, check the sticker in the glove box to see if the car was originally a clutch or auto trans.
On the '05, it is the procedure to loosen the trans mount and jack the trans up slightly to access the one bolt on the passenger rear corner.
Not sure if the same on an '06.
You do not have to lower the x-member or remove completely any parts.
+1 for pan drop and oil & filter change vs. machine flushing.

Good luck.
My 2006 Z51 Coupe with the A6 had paddle shift. But I don't believe the 2005 with the A4 had them.
OP, find someone else who actually knows these cars.
