A mouse died in my car while it was covered and unused for a few weeks. I searched and couldn't find it but when I turned on the air conditioner it was really stinky through the vents and when turned up to full blast made a loud noise like something was obstructing something.
So my question is, how would I locate this dead mouse? I hope it doesn't involve removing the dashboard or anything major.
Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated!
I had the same issue.
There was a nest on the cabin filter and the stanch was horrible !
I opened the access to the cabin filter and carefully removed the nest and filter took a vacuum to suck out the mess.
Replaced the filter but the smell was still there so I asked the local dealer what could be done to get the stanch out,
The service manager told me about a produce that they had that would absorbed the bad order and I purchased it.
The cost was a little steep, (around $30.00) I was told to take out the floor mats, open the canaster and place it on
the floor, I left it there for 5 days with the windows up and when I checked it the order was gone.
Go ahead and remove the wipers and the plastic cover under the wipers. Go ahead and stick a vacuum under there and suck everything out. I pulled about ten clumps of sh*t out from under the windshield/dash like what you see under the picture. If you want, come up with a way to keep the mice from entering through that area again. I glued a screen over that opening before re-installing the plastic cover and wipers.

Had the same happen to a Neon we parked outside some years back.
Apparently SOB made its way to fan & got stuck
Sounded like BB cards we used clothes pins on spokes of our bicycles.
Traded it shortly afterwards, no idea WTH dealer did or not before reselling.

No clue what it takes accessing C6's fan box, but if mouse did get itself stuck (not intake filter) that's what'll be required.
IF source isn't intake filter, it's in the fan box is my bet.
The sound of fan is the big Tell, carcass being beaten like a drum.
The vent fan is pretty easy to get at. You can remove the panel under the glovebox then remove the 3 screws and an electrical connector holding the fan assembly on and it should come right out.
Thanks much for the responses. I'll start with the easiest proposed solution first and the take it from there if necessary. Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday!

Would you mind sharing the name of the product that you used?
Regardless of how you clean up the current situation, here is a solution that works for me to keep mice out of my engine bay. I have one in each of my two cars. Mice were a constant problem until I installed these. If you do install one, I suggest using a battery maintainer because they do run off the battery. My cars have sat up to a week without a maintainer, and had no problem, but I prefer to be safe rather than sorry. Draw is about 20mA according to my measurement.

Pulled the cabin filter and while he had been there subsequently moved on. Vacuumed the area and replaced with new filter. Proceeded to the vent fan and can't located the three screws you mentioned, I have a '06 vert if that matters. Hope you or someone else replies with specific screw location.
I made a adapter for my shop vac out of copper pipe fittings and used a mirror to find my way. Now I am talking about next to the filter that is removed. Copper pipe I used was 3/4 inch 90 deg elbow and short pieces. Was a bit of effort but did work. Now I use dryer strips inside the filter area and it does help if you remember to change them every six month the mouse will not return.
Well, Hope you can get it out without a lot of PITA. I put a open box "Bounce" dryer sheets in mine, is suppose to drive them out, they hate the smell ?

Definitely going to look into this. One question - I have a GS coupe. Since the battery is not in the engine area, what would I connect it to?
Quick update! I see they also offer a battery powered unit.
Once you locate the dead mouse and clean the area the best you can you may still have some stench lingering. Mice like to urinate in their nest area and that can be next to impossible to locate. One trick is to tape small plastic shopping bags to the dash and foot well vents and poke a small hole in each, then locate the fresh air intake and with a helper as you move the inside vent controls (power on) rattle can clear spray into the outside air intake, this will coat all the vent tubes and areas you cant reach and seal it. once the clear completely dries there will minimal paint and no mouse smell. This is an extreme solution fix when mice really mess things up in your car, not my first choice of approach but a last chance effort to rid the smell of mouse urine.

I have a 2006 Z06, so my battery isn't in the engine area either. No problem. Connect the hot lead to the main power terminal that is located right next to the fuse box under the hood. Connect the ground lead to any good ground. I used one that is on the fender towards the front of the car.

Thanks. As I thought about it, that would be the best way! I did a little further checking though and most reviews say the sonic repellents really don't work. One review said there might be an initial improvement but that the little critters soon get used to it.
Fortunately haven't had a problem yet but I did recently catch a rat in the garage. Going to keep a box of dryer sheets in the back, under the hatch and put a box or two on the floor under the engine.

It's true that many of the older ultrasonic units weren't very effective, but the new model that I referenced works very well. It has a combination of ultrasonic frequencies and flashing lights. I think the lights helped a lot. Mice get spooked, pack up and leave.

At $20 it's probably worth a shot! I do keep a tender on the battery - in this case, I'd probably go with the battery unit
