So 2006 and up M6, trans does not need to be in reverse, and the Trans only has the single reverse switch instead.

On the Auto trans, its the park position switch in the shifter that the leg of it may have to be tweaked farther out, so when the shifter is put into park, the contact switch lever is pushed in enough to have continuity through the switch.
A6 has the single contact switch,

A4 has two switches, but the park switch is still the front one.

Also, have not see a switch so contact worn out that just pulling the switch apart to clean it solves the problems, if you don't have a few days to just order a new replacement switch from Mouser for a few bucks isntead.
Hence GM is known not to carry the small parts to replace items as they where out, but instead wants to gouge by selling the complete assembly at hundreds of dollars instead.
Hence in the case of the auto shifter cable that the few dollar end grommets wear out and you can replace them with the cable still in place for a few dollars, verse GM charging $50 for a new cable, and about $300 in labor to replace the cable.

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

IIRC there've been several reports a bracket's used for securing sensor, it may come loose w/ age/vibration..
Due to loose bracket sensor's too far away to do its job.
Hasn't happened much but it did happen, worth checking.
Also begs the question though, how old are fob's batteries?
Measured V?
IF a fob battery loses the slightest amount of juice it stops functioning.
Owners get confounded after buying 'new' replacement cells and still no love.
Turns out cells they'd purchased had sat for long periods and DOA.
Has caused many-a-heartache, a real rabbit hole.
Make damned sure fob batteries produce 3VDC, no less.
