Default Shift to Park Message

Ok so the saga returns. I researched the stuck in park situation and dissected it to finally just replace the whole shifter assembly. Very simple task once you open it all up. The only issue I had was putting the shifter handle on, so I left it off. Drove the car for a few weeks and all of a sudden BAM!!!!! Now I get the **** to park and the accessory stay lit. I searched the forum again to find, remove the negative wire on battery to reset the computer. Now the car won’t start and I went to close the windows and only the passenger window closes. When I try to close the driver side you see the door panel dim and no closing window. At this point I left the battery disconnected and went in the house. Any suggestions prior to me succumbing to the dealership for this repair. Oh buy the way I purchased an OEM shifter assembly from my local dealer, so i know it’s the right one.

thanks for any advice in advance,
Anthony

2005, M6 trans, which has a second reverse type switch sensor in the trans (over just the reverse light switch) to tell the BCM it's in Reverse to shut the car down.

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...hat-to-do.html

So 2006 and up M6, trans does not need to be in reverse, and the Trans only has the single reverse switch instead.

On the Auto trans, its the park position switch in the shifter that the leg of it may have to be tweaked farther out, so when the shifter is put into park, the contact switch lever is pushed in enough to have continuity through the switch.

A6 has the single contact switch,

A4 has two switches, but the park switch is still the front one.

To add, wasted a lot of money of replacing the entire shifter assembly in the first place, since the original problem could have been solved by just bending the micro switch lever out so it did allow continuity through it/lever was pressed in by the shifter in park to active the switch.

Also, have not see a switch so contact worn out that just pulling the switch apart to clean it solves the problems, if you don't have a few days to just order a new replacement switch from Mouser for a few bucks isntead.

Hence GM is known not to carry the small parts to replace items as they where out, but instead wants to gouge by selling the complete assembly at hundreds of dollars instead.
Hence in the case of the auto shifter cable that the few dollar end grommets wear out and you can replace them with the cable still in place for a few dollars, verse GM charging $50 for a new cable, and about $300 in labor to replace the cable.

Default Coincidence?????

Just worried it’s a computer issue now that I can’t close my drivers door and the car won’t start. I never got a shift to park error before, replaced the whole shifter and worked well for three weeks.. 🤬🤬🤬

OK. Have you tried a fob in the slot in the glove box. I believe the buttons have to be facing out to the passenger side. If that doesn’t work leave the LH door open or roll the window down and disconnect the battery for a few minutes and try again. You will have to index the windows again after the battery disconnect.

Ok Dano I went back in and opened this can of worms back up. Here is what I found contact was fine and I tweaked it back anyhow, After putting the battery terminal back lost the, it dash go through start up and still the car don't start and now there is accessory power although the accessory light is on the button. Also the remotes seemed to have lost their programming too, the dash claims no fobs detected. I guess it's time to bring it in on the hook.

So using glove box slot, fob properly articulated, does nothing?
IIRC there've been several reports a bracket's used for securing sensor, it may come loose w/ age/vibration..
Due to loose bracket sensor's too far away to do its job.
Hasn't happened much but it did happen, worth checking.

Also begs the question though, how old are fob's batteries?
Measured V?
IF a fob battery loses the slightest amount of juice it stops functioning.
Owners get confounded after buying 'new' replacement cells and still no love.
Turns out cells they'd purchased had sat for long periods and DOA.
Has caused many-a-heartache, a real rabbit hole.
Make damned sure fob batteries produce 3VDC, no less.

Update for all, I had the car flat bedded to the dealer Monday and in hours i was called to be told the shifter I purchased and put in the car was defective. WOW i was so nervous that it had become a computer issue. Surprisingly they only charged me 175 for labor and they replaced the shifter since I purchased it from them approximately a month ago. So I say all and all I was lucky. This is the third Corvette I have owned and all of them owe me nothing. The only work I have done to them was to replace batteries, replace brakes and the stereos. Either that's just luck or the Corvette is the most economical sports car in my eyes.
