Default Shift Cable

So I return from the stores in my 07 base car running fine. Decided an hour later to go out and the car runs and just sits there not moving no matter what the shifter says. So it sounds like one of the plastic cable ens or both have gone south. Also trying to figure out if I can winch the car into my trailer and drive 500' to my lift in the shop, or jack and jack stands where it is in the house garage. Oh well I'll figure it out..................................... .........

I would first jack the car up and check the cable connection at the tranny. If it is still connected then as long you can remove the center console to see if that grommet is still attached. If it is then you need to replace the cable. Most times it is just a grommet. No need for a lift if it is either grommet. I have replaced both on my '07. The first to go was the shifter grommet. picked up a grommet assortment package at Advanced Auto for less then $10. Next the rear broke I bought a new package (could not find the first pages) and while I was able to find a grommet the fit the rear none were as tight fitting as the front. I called a friend that specializes on Corvette's and he recommended replacing the cable so I got the car down to him and he replaced the complete cable assembly.

Dorman #14055. Cable very seldom goes bad. Cable from GM is under $50.00 if you go that route and yes your lift will be handy in that case. GL.

Thanks folks for the quick response. I thought I would remove the console first and see what I have going on.

Mine broke two weeks ago after taking off the wideband sensor after having my Vette dynoed, (installed Kooks headers that I got from Steve at RDP; went from 340hp/350 ft/lb torque to 372 hp/375 ft/lbs with the headers and a tune.) The tuner was able to jack the rear up and get it in gear so I could drive approximately 15 miles home. Jacked up the rear and the cable was attached, removed the console and the bushing was broken. Ordered the $50 cable, then read about the Dorman kit and picked one up at an auto parts store. Had to use a drill bit to ream out one of the white bushings a little bit to get it to seat; after it popped on.
